I don't like smoked beer but I liked that one. I focused on the mouth feel first and it was really smooth and pleasant, then I forgot about the smoke, then I poured another, and another ...from the tap in your brewhouse

Re: What's the word on the Smokehouse?
I enjoyed it the 3 times I had it, honestly it was really easy drinking and I'll be getting it again, although your APA is my go to (I love my hops). As for feed back, I split the last squealer with my buddy Cory and he was a fan. He is looking forward to drinking it again.
My buddy Shawn wasn't a fan, but yet again his pallet isn't developed and tends to stick to Sleeman Honey Brown. I'm glad I only poured him a small sample.
What changes are you planning for this beer?

Different yeast. All about the smoke flavour and nothing else.

Enjoying it but wasn't what I was expecting at all. Aroma is almost fruity rather than the bacony blast I was expecting. English yeast?
Really like that it doesn't have an acrid or acidic aftertaste like a lot of smoked beers have.

Yeast change is to get rid of the fruit! Good pick up on that!

Surprised I could pick that up after working 16+ hours today and sucking back one of your RIS beforehand.HPhunter wrote:Yeast change is to get rid of the fruit! Good pick up on that!

I had the Pale Monday, the RIS Tuesday and I'll have this one tonight and will report back. Both of the others were magnificent. The RIS actually tastes a LOT like my Prime Mover RIS, but mine has "mystery flavour" question marks in it.

Re: What's the word on the Smokehouse?
Drinking it now. Very good beer. Definitely not as smoky as I imagined it would be. I did an Irish Red Ale with 30% smoked malt and it was overpowering for months. This is a more subtle smokiness. It is, in my opinion, a unique product on our brewing horizon. I personally would probably not buy more than one every once in a while, but I could see it having a real niche market. If I had to rank the 3 I'd go (neck in neck) APA, RIS and then the rauch.

Did I miss out on this? I had some of the flat stuff when I visited your brewery and quite liked it. It was delicious and also pretty unique. I'd love to drink some with some ribs or perhaps when I'm out camping... Yessir.

Re: What's the word on the Smokehouse?
Is it a good beer for people like me to enjoy who aren't hard core rauchbier drinkers? I don't think there are many hard core rauchbier drinkers out there. Are you after a niche market or do you want a beer that appeals to many? Most people seemed to be really enjoying it at the valley meeting, raving about it in fact. I wouldn't change it. Work your magic on a new beer instead, and leave that one as it is. If you change it now it's out there, some will be disappointed.

Split the two bottles between a handful of guys Friday. The concensus was: very enjoyable beer, not as smokey as some were expecting/fearing, did come off as sweet, though that could be be yeast characteristics. Cheers!
