X,
I will always welcome a shirt :spilly: some of mine have stains,LOL!

It was good to meet some fellow Brewnosers last night, would have liked to not have to drive home and would rather have been able to drink !
It was a nice surprise to come out with the win, I'll have to wait and see how it does at The ALES comp.
I'll post the recipe soon for any one who wants to try it out.

:spilly: Wooot! Good job boys!

Yo Whistle P, it must have been the gear... I guess spending most of your time in the brewery paid off.

Good show!

For some reason I didn't get an e-mail from Garrison... I'll e-mail them to check out what happened, I guess.

Does the gala start at 7:00? Details seem sparse on their website.

I am no longer in their list I guess. After the shit I gave them about their beer fest being a sham. Also not asked to judge despite being the only experienced beer judge this side of Montreal.

Is anyone interested in starting a proper beer fest? Independent from profit making cronyism and dedicated to beer first, charities second?

lol, that's great, but doesn't surprise me.

I though Granite/Propeller were trying to get a fest going?

X. Even if they do it will be to exclude Garrison. They are all acting like children. The best fest I've even been to is about beer. Great Taste of the Midwest. Run by the home brew club.

'twas a good time the other night. Delicious beer from the 4 finalists, and I think the Rye IPA turned out decent too.

My beer finished at 1.008. I got dinged twice on the sheet for not having a dry finish/being too sweet. Odd times.
My beer has a couple other issues, but sweetness shouldn't be one of them.

Right idea, unfortunately, we are in the wrong location.

Personally, I would like to see efforts placed on running a good contest first, then perhaps a beer festival could follow/become part of it. Once some of us become BJCP judges, I'm pretty gung-ho about getting something started.

We had the same issue. Comments that were totally incorrect include: strong smell of banana, very sweet, low carbonation. Also mentions it was bottle primed. We deliberately kept a couple bottles this year of the beer bottled on the same day. The only comment that is even remotely correct is there is a very, very faint hint of banana that you wouldn't find unless you were looking for it. Carbonation is very high and not a hint of yeast - it was fined and then force carbonated, finished at 1.009. At the end of the day, I really don't care since half the fun of this comp is just going to the gala and socializing, but I'm more or less convinced when the fellow who accepted our entry just shoved the unlabeled beers in a fridge, they mixed them up with another entrant. That, or the elimination judging was so out to lunch it's not even funny.

Didn't they say it was basically random people doing the initial judging?

Yep. Comments don't jive with mine either. We should hold a tasting soon.

If someone expected to get good comment and didn't, it probably got mixed up with mine.... mine tasted terrible but got pretty good reviews. Mine tasted much more like Jayme's results describes

:horse:
I was another that was confused about the comments. I never expected to place - I was a little heavy handed with the cane sugar and ended up with 9% ABV. The comment that was baffling was that it was too bitter for the style - I only hopped it to about 26 IBU :?:

They go out of their way to say it is the only BJCP Certified event east of Montreal (for now), but don't use BJCP score sheets...

Yeah I definitely hold issue with them calling it a BJCP sanctioned event.

My comments came in pretty fair based on how I thought mine faired out - banana, finished sweet and low head retention. Carbonation was listed as appropriate, so that was a plus. I've got two or three bottles that were bottled the same night, as well as half a keg in storage to compare how well the counterpressure filling with a racking cane and stopper work. But, like Jayme says, most of the contest is having fun at the gala night anyway!

my comments were all positive. i think i could have made it a bit more complex with a bit of munich and flavour/aroma hop additions.

my only complaint was i wish they would be a bit more organized with the collection of the entries. they stated that they want brewers to brew a few batches before submitting their entries. if this is the case then garrison/ng needs to do their part as well and be a bit more diligent on their end. i think when you drop off your entry they should label the bottles on site and give u a number back or something. that way when you get your score sheet you can confirm the correct number.

also the score sheet wasnt a score sheet, primary comment comment based. would be nice to see an offical bjcp scoresheet.

the gala was a great time, lotsa fun. glad to see some good lookin ladies amongst all the hideous homebrewers. :D one had some nice jugs.... :rockin:

I thought my comments were kind of out to lunch too, but it was my first time entering a competition so I didn't really know what to expect.
