I find a good strong jet of water blasts pretty much everything out. Every few brews I bake it in the oven as well, and that seems to turn anything else I didn't get out to dust.Jayme wrote:That's pretty much the exact same thing I got from X and use in my current pot. It does work great but I find it a pain to clean. I was thinking the HopBlocker would be pretty easy to rinse.

Maybe you should start soaking it in caustic, instead of pouring it all over your cupboards.Jayme wrote:That's pretty much the exact same thing I got from X and use in my current pot. It does work great but I find it a pain to clean. I was thinking the HopBlocker would be pretty easy to rinse.

I love my homemade Blichmann unit. works great.

Re: Obk false bottom?
I've been using one of these for years, batches with well over 20oz of hops, without ever clogging it.jeffsmith wrote:Might be worth it though. It was a tough sell, but I shelled out the cash for a Hop Stopper and it's been one of the best purchases I've made (brewing equipment-wise) in a long time. Works great in my 15gal OBK pot.
When I'm done, I give it a good rinse and fire it in the dishwasher. Comes out clean and shiny.

I would say 'inspired by' as opposed to a carbon copy. There should be pics here if you search hop stopper.

Jeff, I assume that you purchased the standard hop stopper for your OBK pot, correct?

Re: Obk false bottom?
It was the full SS version for up to 30 gallon pots. It was the custom version that I ordered though—sent them the dimensions of my pot so that the dip tube was cut to proper length for me. I'll grab a photo of it installed in my OBK pot at lunchtime today.canuck wrote:jeffsmith wrote:Might be worth it though. Re: Obk false bottom?
How are the edges of the hop stopper sealed? Just folded over and compressed?
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Don't recall what the measurements were. There's instructions on the manufacturer's site about what measurements you need.sleepyjamie wrote:Jeff. U got those measurements. I wanna get one of these for me 15 gal obk pot

Jamie, i'd be interested in grabbing one of these with you if possible? I'm also looking to put one in an OBK 15g kettle.

Re: Obk false bottom?
As an update on how well these work, I did a DIPA with a pound of Simcoe pellets last week and the screen worked like a champ. Only left about a quart and a half of liquid in the kettle.
