I find a good strong jet of water blasts pretty much everything out. Every few brews I bake it in the oven as well, and that seems to turn anything else I didn't get out to dust.

Maybe you should start soaking it in caustic, instead of pouring it all over your cupboards.

I love my homemade Blichmann unit. works great.

I've been using one of these for years, batches with well over 20oz of hops, without ever clogging it.

When I'm done, I give it a good rinse and fire it in the dishwasher. Comes out clean and shiny.

this looks good. do you find the hop blocker doesnt get clogged at all with pellet hops?
Doesn't get clogged at all. I actually had been using whole leaf hops for the most part before I got this, but I'm now switching back to pellets because it does such a great job with them.

Good to know Jeff. I have the save 15gal OBK pot that you do.......any chance you could snap a quick iphone pic of it in your BK?

That cupboard needed to be cleaned anyhow.. haha.

How similar to the real Blichmann unit is yours?

I would say 'inspired by' as opposed to a carbon copy. There should be pics here if you search hop stopper.

Jeff, I assume that you purchased the standard hop stopper for your OBK pot, correct?

It was the full SS version for up to 30 gallon pots. It was the custom version that I ordered though—sent them the dimensions of my pot so that the dip tube was cut to proper length for me. I'll grab a photo of it installed in my OBK pot at lunchtime today.

How are the edges of the hop stopper sealed? Just folded over and compressed?
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Yeah, they're folded over probably 3 or 4 times.

Don't recall what the measurements were. There's instructions on the manufacturer's site about what measurements you need.

Jamie, i'd be interested in grabbing one of these with you if possible? I'm also looking to put one in an OBK 15g kettle.

As an update on how well these work, I did a DIPA with a pound of Simcoe pellets last week and the screen worked like a champ. Only left about a quart and a half of liquid in the kettle.
