Brewnosers bcs book?

Post by sleepyjamie » Sun Dec 09, 2012 3:43 pm

Anyone interested in making a brewnosers bcs book?

I was thinking it would be a great idea for everyone to contribute their most awesome recipes and we could print out a book and sell it to the group or other people?

The book could even include funny brewing stories or tips and tricks?

Thoughts?

Interesting idea...
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

I don't think I have any recipes to contribute either but I'm thinking it could be a book that we could release annually if there is enough interest.

So if u don't have a recipe now there might be one next year that is good.

What if we had a system where those interested brewed a beer of particular style, then we had an internal vote on which is the best? That recipe would then be added as the beer for that style? I guess it would probably take a while, but would prevent random recipes that weren't that great from being added.

yeah that would work. not sure how people would vote? maybe we would get them to brew the style and have a blind taste test?

that would take a while but certainly would up the competition. maybe do a brewing competition in early spring?

Hopefully a number of us will be BJCP judges around that time. It would be great to organize a competition and publish a recipe book. Is your thought to just make this something available internally within the club, or to actually try and sell it?

sounds like a great way to organize a annual/semiannual/quarterly event...
1) announce the style for next event,
2) hold an event where everyone brings their take on the style, the judges judge and everyone gets to taste.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Not really sure. I guess for now just generate a book internally and if there is a demand maybe have it released to the wild and sell it?

I think it would be kind of neat to have an annual contest, publish and sell a book of the winning recipes, and use that profit to pay for the contest. Of course everyone would have to sign off on allowing their recipes to be published, but I feel like most homebrewers would be totally willing/thrilled to have their name on a recipe in a book (so long as proper credit is given).

Gauge interest via a poll, talk in person at the next meeting, etc.

Self-publishing will let us get a physical book out there if that's what the ultimate goal is. http://www.lulu.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is one of many options.

Maybe some recipes with local ingredients too, marketed as a Maritime Beer Brewing book, or something of that nature....

yeah thats a good idea.

tomorrows meeting ill discuss it with some people and see what the best option is.

maybe a competition/show-down for non-award winning recipes would be good, and maybe any award winning recipes we could automatically throw in there. and of course recipes from local breweries would be great as well (including clones).

it would be nice to have it printed and include pictures of the beers and/or brewers. will check on the pricing.
