Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Brewed my IPA yesterday. Went back to a previous recipe, and used Simcoe instead of Falconers Flight.

Brewed 20 gallons on Sat. 10 Gal session IPA (Centennial/Simcoe, and 10 Gal IPA (Simcoe, Amarillo /w a small addition of Centennial) and kegged 10 gallons of wheat.
Should hold the crew and family over for a while.
Prepping a 10 Gal Irish Red and probably another 10 Gal Nut Brown for when the fermenters are free.

3 kegs just blew at the same time (well less than 2 days). Put the 2 partial kegs of apa and smoked in the fridge, along with a nut brown. Looks like I'll have 3 more kegs to fill after this last batch is kegged. I might break out the new pot and see how it works, or brew up another variety on a triple brew day.

40L Pale ale today hopped exclusively with NZ Waimea, and possibly another 40L base for another fruit beer, 20L raspberry and 20L undecided at this point, but leaning toward blueberry or mango.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Read the latest blog post of the Madfermentationist and got inspired. His was a low alcohol, wheat flour IPA heavy on the chloride. He described it as a juicy milkshake. http://www.themadfermentationist.com/20 ... e.html?m=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
10 gallons of 1.060 IPA 70IBUs 90.4% pale ale 9.6%wheat malt. 100 grams each of orbit, simcoe, citra as whirlpool additions. Conan as the yeast. The heartbreaker was that my Conan starter sat in the fridge for a week and the foil covering had an aroma of vinegar. I didn't have backup yeast and no chance to buy some tonight or tomorrow. So I may 10gallons of really interesting malt vinegar in a little while. I'm going to try to stay ahead of any acetobacter in my beer by kegging it early, minimizing oxygen after today and leaving it in the fridge once kegged. Anyone know how fast acetobacter works?

In my experience acetobacter is really slow. Also, starters often have off flavours and aroma so it could have been something else.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Been way too long since my last brew (early April), and given what the next month looks like I won't be doing another any time soon. So I was super stoked last night when my wife offered me a brew day today.
Mashed in about 30min ago on a 5 gallon version of Keith's Funktown APA. I don't have any Falconer's Flight, I can't justify any more hops right now, and I've been eager to do something with Simcoe and Amarillo, so the hopping is Columbus for FWH (20 IBUs), 6.7ish IBUs each from Simcoe and Amarillo at 10min and then 30/20g Amarillo/Simcoe at flameout. I'll do the same for dry hop.
After sampling Keith's latest batch of this when I picked up my SMaSH exchange beers I'm really looking forward to having this on tap.

oh you're doing the APA with Simcoe and Amarillo. That's going to be a tasty sonna bitch! Let me know how it works out. I might have to do the same!mumblecrunch wrote:Been way too long since my last brew (early April), and given what the next month looks like I won't be doing another any time soon.
