Re: What's everyone drinking tonight?
Could be a number of reasons. But if a beer is filled and drank in the same day, and is so loaded with diacetyl as to not be drinkable, that didn't happen on the packaging side.

Could it be that he can't keep up with demand and his pipeline is being rushed, before yeast has had time to clean up the Diacetyl? and not so much hurry with the pub beer?

I'm dipping a little early into a "bitter" where my brewday went fubar. 3% beer. Terribly Mild Bitter or Terribly Bitter Mild. But the fruitiness has really come out of the S-04. Haven't decided what to make of it.

I've only had problems with growlers from there when they are NOT fresh. Which is to say I entirely agree, but I don't think your fact that fresh growlers are diacetyl bombs is true. I was just there on the weekend and both my pint at the pub and growler were clean as can be.mr x wrote:Could be a number of reasons. The canned beer I drank was canned on the 11th of Sept, and I drank it on the 15th. At Crystal and Luckett I found it in the fridge. How could it go so bad so quickly if it was not on the production side?

I can only speak to past experience as mentioned in the other thread. I can't take it anymore! I was there with another Brewnoser 8 days ago. Every beer on tap in the pub had diacetyl, including the Heather Ale, although it was in minute quantities compared with some of the others. 3 of them were D-BOMBS.

That's that then, can no longer say I haven't heard reports of crap on tap. Happy to admit to being wrong.NASH wrote:I can't take it anymore! I was there with another Brewnoser 8 days ago. Jamie if you haven't found these places in Vegas yet check out Ellis Island Brewing a few blocks behind Ballys on the strip. Killer BBQ and 1.75 craft beers. The beer won't blow your socks off but it is tasty for the price. Also the Monte Carlo has a beer bar with hundreds of brews to try. I remember trying a ton a craft brews from Nevada and surrounding areas.sleepyjamie wrote: Sierra Nevada pale ale in public on the strip

Re: What's everyone drinking tonight?
There’s two beers that I like at Sea Level. I really like the Heather Ale/Summer Blonde and if they have run out I’ll be a bit disappointed but will be happy with a Blue Heron. Randy does have trouble keeping up with his orders, things were crazy back there when he showed me around and he was way behind with his orders. There seems to be a huge demand for microbrewery beer.
At Paddy’s, the only one I like is the AVA. They have a blueberry one at the moment also which was interesting for me to try, and I thought it might be a good beer for people who like blueberry beer. The Chimney Swift stout was also quite good.
Did anyone recognize the hops/malt in the Summer Blonde/Heather Ale, and AVA? I know the Summer Blonde is 100% pilsner and probably the Heather ale is too, as it tastes the same to me. Those are the only beers around here that I would order a pint of, and then maybe another one. A couple of years ago Randy had a Rojo Diablo Amarillo Double IPA on tap that I got quite addicted to as well.

Re: What's everyone drinking tonight?
The Summer Blonde used Summer Hops (http://www.hops.com.au/products/summer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).
The Heather Ale, I believe, uses his own hops, so not Summer.
You are saying they both taste the same to you, that might actually be some of the flaws we're talking about, as opposed to the recipe?

Re: What's everyone drinking tonight?
Thanks Chris, Nash reported only "minute quantities" of diacetyl in the heather ale at the pub. I was thinking that the "flaws we are talking about" might be the reason that I don't like the other beers there apart from maybe the Blue Heron. The heather ale and the summer blonde are lightly hopped, and I was thinking it was the grain profile (100% pilsner in the blonde) that might be the same as the heather ale....but I see I am wrong on that (see below)
I was really interested to find out the hops in Paddy's AVA. I can't find that online.

This year, we’ve utilized the first Maritime Malts developed in New Brunswick for our Bitterdaze IPA and the New Scotland Heather Ale. The Heather Ale being especially important as its brewed exclusively with NB Maritime Malts, Nova Scotia grown Heather, and our Sea Level Hops – 100% LOCAL!

Re: What's everyone drinking tonight?
I was through Sunday and he did list off his hops used in the Heather to my friend but Centennial was the only one I caught from his list 2 or three varieties of homegrown used.

Mad Tom IPA last night, thanks Canuck. Discovered this brew at the Freddy brewer bash this summer and it has quickly become one of my favorite Canadian IPA's.
