Having some Granite Hopping Mad while brewing an IPA
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

First pour from the keg of Belgian Pale Ale I kegged the other night. Still needs a bit more carb. Lots of floaties in this one as I must have stirred up a bit of sediment when racking to the keg.

,nothing overwhelming about it just a solid pale ale.

I tried the 5 new Oakham Ales from Premier last night. Considering they're all fairly low gravity beers, they traveled well. The Citra was ok but could have used more hops and was a bit thin. Scarlet Macaw was probably my favourite out of the five. Some subtle fruit character. All well very drinkable but quite tame and not overly interesting. Certainly falls into the category of common craft beer at premium prices - though the price on these ones wasn't totally unreasonable.

The other beer I had last night was from the Rare Bird. The pale ale is... lacking. Oxidized and a complete lack of hops. However I did enjoy the stout. Nice coffee character with some hints of chocolate. Also priced way too high, but the stout was worth trying.

Actually I wasn't around, so maybe you did.
That's right.

Plus, I've driven past a bunch more times since that post, and there's gonna be a bunch more times to come in the very near future since I don't know where you live, other than on the Tyndall Rd. It's a relatively long road. Just sayin'.

It appeared to be the more popular beer of the two based on the number of bottles in the cooler. Dozens of the pale ale and only 3 bottles of the stout. $7 a bottle is steep for a bomber however.

I don't think there are any of that style left for sale. We placed a new order a little while back for some different styles, not sure if there are any of those left either.

Its the one with 'ROBINSON' on the mail box  Actually, I'm much closer to town than to the shore - 2.5 km down Tyndall if you're heading to the shore from town.

You need to put the Grouse Brewery on the good beer map.

Drinking a light lager I made this summer. Too much corn = not enough head, but it do taste fine all the same.

I had my Atomic IPA clone before the lager and I must savour each sip before it goes the way of the Do Do, until I can score more Citra.

Yeah I bought a 4-pack of that stuff... and wasn't crazy about the first bottle. I'm going to sit on the rest for a while and see what happens!

I tried this last night :Image

Not bad. I tend to not like 'Belgian Stouts' with a ton of yeast character (which probably means I don't really like 'Belgian Stouts' all that much...). This one wasn't over the top. The small size flip top bottles are kind of cool but unnecessary.

Had a few of my Sierra Nevada Torpedo clone last night, now that it has aged a bit it is very similar to the original, but mine has more estery flavour, probably due to the fact I fermented it during the hottest week of the summer, so my fermentation temperatures were close to 24°C. Looks very good in the brewnosers goblets :cheers2:
