Hello from the NBCBA :)

Post by Richard » Sun Mar 10, 2013 7:12 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm Richard, the president of the NBCBA over at http://www.craftbrewing.ca" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Just a quick follow up to the conversation I had with a couple of your members last night at the beer festival - we'd like to get together for a group event some time. We're thinking camping, BBQ'ing, drinking, and all the good stuff that goes with it.

Nothing specific right now, just want to get the ball rolling - any ideas or suggestions are welcomed.

Slainte! :spilly:

:welcome: Richard. I was one of the guys you were speaking with last night. Looking forward to working something out on a group event. :cheers3:
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Looking forward to it. Thinking the SAAZ area might be a great middle ground for this event. :spilly:

Yes indeed! I've got plenty of room should folks want to pitch a tent or trailer (assuming this is a warmer weather thing). Us marsh dwellers have already had a couple of conversations about a big gathering like this.

Welcome! Hi Richard, I'm Chris, one of the other jokers you met last night. A meetup sounds great, and somewhere in the Amherst/Moncton area seems like a reasonable mid-point.

Sounds like Moncton-ish would work... we have a few members up there as it happens :)

No details as yet - I'm personally very busy (work) right now so please excuse me if I'm a little slow to respond at times.

How do you guys normally arrange stuff like this?

I'll speak to the guys in Moncton to see what they think would work for a venue/area - what's the preference for Month(s) here too to get the ball rolling?

I'm part of the Moncton contingent (we also spoke briefly at the F'ton Festival Richard). I don't really have enough room to offer a backyard full of tents but would love to see something take place here / Sackville / Amherst.

We should plan to do something around the Atlantic Beer Festival. The date has been confirmed for May 25th ( http://www.atlanticbeerfestival.ca/Atla ... /Home.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ). I've always gone to the afternoon session, less packed than the evenings so easier access to the beers. Maybe meeting up for supper at the Pump House or Barnyard BBQ (and possibly a tour - $2 / person) that evening? I could look into this with Shawn, not sure if that evening would work as most of them are at the festival that night but can ask.

For anyone staying in town overnight I could see if we can get a tour of Patrice Godin's setup (Acadie-Broue) and maybe meet up for lunch at the Tide & Boar the next day with a beer early afternoon at the laundromat? If the PH tour at Barnyard doesn't work on the Saturday maybe late Sunday morning / early afternoon?

It would be about a one hour drive from Moncton to the BSBNB location. That would be a perfect time and location for a group event.

I have not gone to the Moncton Festival in about 4 years & was not really planning on going again this year. It sounds like a logical time and place for a get together. Unfortunately, it is not a very good time for me. I could probably make any organized activities Sunday. My daughter is in the school musical and without fail, it is always the same weekend as the Atlantic Beer Festival :x If I can figure out transportation, there is a slight chance I meet folks Saturday.

Maybe the next get-together could be in NS? I'm sure there are folks in both crews that won't be able to make it to this one.

As for me, I'll need to check the schedule, but if I'm free, I'm down.

Suggestions for specific locations in the Moncton environs?

Araxis already mentioned the idea about a tour of the Acadie-Broue facilities Atl Festival weekend to Patrice and he seemed receptive. I can confirm with him. Also let me know if people are interested in a tour of the Barnyard BBQ that weekend.
