Petrol Gel keg lube
I've been using mineral oil but it's so runny and a bit of a pain because of that.
Has anyone seen Petrol Gel sanitary lubricant locally? It seems to sell for $5-$7 online.
This place has it on sale for about $2 a tube:
http://www.wasserstrom.com/restaurant-s ... uct_308525
It could be even cheaper from the manufacturer:
http://www.petrolgel.com/about/
I'm going to order some from the first link. So far, this is who's in:

Re: Petrol Gel keg lube
I've never had needed anything like this in all my years of kegging. Are you sure you need it?
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Well it's not really a necessity, you're right. Just a nice to have at the right price.

Right on, is it suppose to give you a better seal?

Yes, and keeps the o-rings from cracking or wearing out. Some people use vaseline or mineral oil as well. The petrol gel is food grade, sanitary, etc, so I'd prefer to use that instead.

I have a couple kegs that I Iike to use sealant on. Is this the stuff that you can use with beer that won't kill the head?

This is the one they sell at LHBS, just not here that I've seen, so I can't imagine this effecting the beer. Lots of people use this with kegging homebrew.

Good enough, count me in. BTW, you should have stuck around the other day at the malt order to meet a few peeps, didn't have to take off...

I've been using this stuff since I started kegging. Works fantastic.

Edit: I also ordered it from that company, but had it shipped to Houlton, Maine. I'm not sure what they charge for shipping to Canada.

Re: Petrol Gel keg lube
I'd be interested in the GB. I have one keg that's pretty picky to get sealed, might make it easier.
planning: beer for my cousin's wedding
Fermenting: black ipa
Conditioning:
Kegged: barrel barleywine from 2014 - i think i still have this somewhere

Re: Petrol Gel keg lube
I'm going to give this another day or two and then order from the first link I posted, wasserstrom. I'll probably order a few extra to have a few more around and in case anyone else wants some. $2 a tube is pretty good.
I updated the first post with a list of who's in.

And you could play drinking games to see how long before you've drank all the lube. Water soluble would not be your friend here, haha.HbgBill wrote:How about KY Jelly. Should be available anywhere condoms and such are sold. Works like a charm.. food safe too..
I've got the Petrol-Gel stuff, works great. Can't recall where I got it tho.

FYI - Petro Gel is listed on Noble Grape's site for $5.99 / tube.
