[UPDATED] WTB: Immersion Chiller
I am looking for an immersion wort chiller. If you've upgraded to a counterflow or plate chiller and have one of these guys laying around, let me know. This is going to be used to cool 5 or 6.5 gal batches. Copper or stainless, doesn't matter. 25' should do it.
Cheers

Re: WTB: Boil kettle, immersion chiller, sanke keg
Are you propane or electric?

Currently electric. I was thinking about switching to propane/keggles but that project will have to wait until I can build a brew rig of some sort. To put things in perspective, I am currently doing a 7 gal boil split into two smaller pots... Ideally I would like to get an 8 gal pot.

That is exactly what I'm looking for. I sent him a message this afternoon, but haven't heard back from him yet. I am weary of the description "good to store fuel," hopefully that is not what he used it for.

Yeah, and when you do, tell him you are from Garrison, and you'll be taking that keg for free.

Excellent point. I didn't even notice the number on there before.Jmac00 wrote:you would probably have better luck calling the phone number.

Re: WTB: Boil kettle, immersion chiller, sanke keg
I have a pair of sankeys with the tops cut.
one has a spigot that needs the weld touched up, undercut drips a bit.
the other is just cut.

Re: WTB: Boil kettle, immersion chiller, sanke keg
K-meister, thanks for the offer, but I managed to acquire a couple of sankes. I have updated the original post. I no longer need a kettle or kegs, however, I still need an immersion wort chiller. Copper or stainless, for just 6 gals post boil, a 25' oughtta do it! Anybody upgrade to a plate or counterflow chiller?

And we haven't had a chance to use it yet. And he's in Freddy Beach this weekend, so no brewing going on now.mr x wrote:I lended (lent)my plate chiller to Liverdance.
How has the Chillus Maximus been working out for you?

Awesome. Worth every penny. It's not nearly as fast as the plate chiller (when the plate chiller isn't plugged), but it gets the job done and works well with my hopstopping system.

Moxie,
I made my immersion chiller for cheaper than you can buy one. I bought 30 ft of 3/8" copper refrigeration tubing, some elbows (I had some 3/8" rigid copper lying around) from Kent. It also gave me an excuse to buy a blowtorch
It isn't pretty, but its pretty effective.

Re: [UPDATED] WTB: Immersion Chiller

Hmm. Got a photo of this beast? Can you recall how much you paid for the tubing? I was thinking about just using all bends since I don't particularly want to get a torch, flux, etc, but I would get a pipe bender. Maybe use some screw clamps to put on some silicone tubing... This sounds like a pain in the ass to build. Hey, if you find that your 30 footer isn't cooling fast enough, I'd gladly take it off your hands to help subsidize a larger one. Nobel Grape charges $80 for their small batch chiller... Ridiculous.akr71 wrote:Moxie,

I'll find a photo...
I bought a little over 30 ft of copper tubing (the guy at Kent couldn't be bothered to measure it
) and spent less than $60.
Uploaded a couple pics to the gallery (under Andy's Ugly Chiller)

I bought mine at the NG in burnside last Christmas for 50-60 bucks. I think they still have some.

What size batches do you brew? How fast does it cool with your IC?Tim Gregory wrote:I bought mine at the NG in burnside last Christmas for 50-60 bucks. I think they still have some.
