Real Lambic at Premier

Post by BobbyOK » Mon Nov 19, 2012 11:25 am

Oud Beersel - most of the comments I see for these are that it's a more approachable take but still the real deal.

Excellent news! The gueze and kriek are stellar, I'll be drinking a lot of this.

Anyone know if this will be a regularly stocked beer? What sort of quantity was there when you were in there, Liam?

When I went in this afternoon, there was a small display to the right of the belgian-style section with one open case each of the Kriek and Geuze, on top of another, closed, case of each.

Gavin went after work yesterday and bought the last Gueze. The Frambroise and Kriek were both low as well, but Gord said they still have some more out back. I think I'll pop down tonight after work to buy several bottles for the cellar.

Yeah Gord told Gavin yesterday that he was buying the last bottle... Not sure how Jimmy managed to buy one! Unless they got more in...?

I don't recall if "Oude" is considered an official designation, but it's important to note for these. The Framboise is really just a Fruit Beer in comparison to the Oude Kriek. The overall labelling gives it away, but the lack of "Oude" on the Framboise is significant.

Oude simply means old I believe. Based on Oud Beersel's website, sounds like the add the cherries to the barrel for the Kriek, but for the Frambroise, sounds like they add the raspberries after the beer has been removed from the barrel - though it's not totally clear. The Frambroise still is most certainly sour though... While I didn't drink the Kriek and Frambroise back to back, I still found the Frambroise quite tart. If anything, I found the Gueze to be the least sour of the 3, but maybe that's just me. One interesting thing though, is they add cherries to the Frambroise as well...
Mild raspberry beer on the basis of real fruit and real lambic!

Framboise Oud Beersel harmonizes the authentic taste of Oude Lambiek and the fruity flavour of ripe raspberries.
A delicate balance of soft lambic and real raspberries provides a smooth natural beer.
The use of real raspberries and lambic matured in wooden barrels, results in an exceptionally subtle and refreshing beer.

Ingredients: water, 220 g of raspberries/l, 50 g of sour cherries/l, malted barley, wheat, hops
Alc.: 5.0 % ABV
Colour: red pink
Shelf life: 4 years
Bottles: 12 x 37,5 cl
