Re: Meeting Idea
I thought we had already settled on a 94% 2-Row/6% C-60 split for the grain bill a few pages ago along with the hopping schedule?
As for hops, I think we should likely do first come first serve. There are only a few overlaps in first choices so I think in most cases it really shouldn't be an issue considering most everyone has entered multiple choices.

Re: Meeting Idea
I agree with Jeff - DC has a splash of roast barley in the recipe he posted & I'm fine with that. Add it or don't - it'll add a bit of color, but that's about it.
As for choosing hops - first come-first serve may be the best approach... just highlight the hop you use. Tho' if you have something on the list no one else does, it makes sense to use that one (IMO)Dirt Chicken wrote:Hows this look?

My buddy Jason (he is on the forum) may be in on this. I could give him some N-Brewer or if you want to ask for something different and available.akr71 wrote:So...

If Larry can switch to Cascade or Fuggles, that works.GAM wrote:

Edit: DC had Wakatu in the recipe he posted. Is this what you are going to use Mr. Chicken?

Re: Meeting Idea
Because of hoptoberfest and thanksgiving we might need to give a wider breadth in time for people to get brewing. I can probably brew next Monday, but it will depend on how work goes on Friday.

Re: Meeting Idea
Cool! Nice job on hammering out the details guys.
If we aim for December meeting, I'll hold off brewing this right now as the hop aroma will be lacking by then. I'll just brew something else first!

Re: Meeting Idea
I think that's likely the most reasonable date given that Hoptoberfest is this weekend and the following is Thanksgiving.mgc wrote:Should we aim to have them done by the December meeting?

Re: Meeting Idea
So I take it we're going for 2oz at 0min, rather than ~15aau? (I dont really have a handle on this yet, so pls excuse my ignorance) and 152 is good for a mash temp?

Re: Meeting Idea
Given that a 0min addition isn't going to give us any alpha acid/IBU contribution and that different hop varieties have differing amount of essential oils & whatever else influences aroma & flavor, I am happy with a 2oz charge at 0min.Stusbrews wrote:So I take it we're going for 2oz at 0min, rather than ~15aau? Besides, we've all got different brewing systems, we'll all get different utilization. At the end of the day, these will be compared using something that is pretty subjective - taste buds. Just my $.02
Edit: December sounds like a great timeline!

Re: Meeting Idea
Agreed, we shouldn't sweat the small stuff too much, but having an agreed upon common procedure is also not a horrible idea. We do want to minimize the differences as much as possible.akr71 wrote: Besides, we've all got different brewing systems, we'll all get different utilization. Re: Meeting Idea
Other then my exam days, or the days after when I am marking, I am really flexible in December.
Is it too late to switch from centennial to Bramling Cross? I really want to try some out.

Re: Meeting Idea
No one else is down for Bramling, so I don't see it as a problem.
Maybe we could mark the spreadsheet when we've each done our brew so if we want to change our minds we know we won't be using a hop someone else already has.

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Re: Meeting Idea
and maybe for this particular meeting in december we all should bring a few/many bottles of this stuff, just so everyone can get a good taste for it- because this is the whole point, and probably won't get a good taste from a sipp with soo many subtle differences with the hops.

good idea. There are 15 on the sheet, I could handle bringing a bottle for everyone to take home with them??Dirt Chicken wrote:and maybe for this particular meeting in december we all should bring a few/many bottles of this stuff, just so everyone can get a good taste for it- because this is the whole point, and probably won't get a good taste from a sipp with soo many subtle differences with the hops.
