Pressurized in a keg would reduce the exposure to oxygen so if that's an option it would be better.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I plan to rack it into a keg tonight, bleed off the headspace and replace it with 10-15lbs of c02, sound alright?

I'll have it at Hoptoberfest.

I'm not sure there's any need for the re-fillers to be there by 9am. Maybe closer to 10ish I would think....?

Great job today filling the barrel. We had 10 kegs delivered, but in reality could have used just short of 11 (apparently those of us in on the first barrel forgot to pass that along). We made up for the lack of beer by re-barreling Nick's Angel Share that we temporarily removed.

I have the kegs/carboys belonging to: SAAZ x2, maltster, hogie, and RobD's 10g keg (formerly known as LD's 10g keg). Will y'all be coming to Hoptoberfest so I can give them to you then? I gave them a solid rinse, however have not sanitized them, I hope that's OK.

It was noted in the filling thread that the barrel took 50 gallons plus a bit from another 5 gallon batch to fill. I just assumed you all had accounted for that.

Thanks guys for getting all filled! Also thanks Nick for temporarily donating your angels share to make up the extra volume.

Thanks guys. Hopefully I can make it over for the emptying. Ballpark, when are we looking at? End of November / early December?

Chalmers, thanks for taking/rinsing my carboy. I won't be over for Hoptoberfest so I don't know yet when I'll be able to retrieve that... If it's in your way, let me know and I'll find someone to take it off your hands.

Both SAAZ are mine. Yep, I'll be at Hoptoberfest. Thanks for taking care of the beer and the kegs!

Anyone measure the FG on their batch before bottling?

This brings up a question. After a couple of months in the barrel, is there enough yeast for priming to be effective? Has anyone had theirs in the bottle long enough to test?

Mine was fine with no extra yeast. 2oz sugar and 30lbs presure to seal.

Any thoughts on the emptying date? Assuming I won't be able to make it, I'm going to send an empty keg over with a friend this weekend. Maybe someone on the PEI Barrel Project can take it from him?

I will be making at least one, if not two trips, to Halifax in the coming weeks. I could get it from this side of the bridge to Halifax for you.

So my keg is currently in Waverly at a friend of a friends. Is there anyone in on this round who lives in the area?

What part of Waverley? Waverley Rd. On the Dartmouth side or up past Fall River? I'm in Dartmouth and frequent it on my end. I'm also in on this round.
