new obsession

Post by HoweFox » Mon Aug 20, 2012 12:11 pm

Hello,

Just thought I would introduce myself.

10 years ago I did some homebrewing mostly to safe money and for mass consumption, but that lasted for only a year. Have been moving about for the past many years (5 years in Vancouver and a couple in California). Finally got some extra space due to finally owning a house so I recently looked into it again and started with Festa Brew Brown Ale. Just had my first taste of it on the weekend and was really happy with the result. Will probably stick with these easy kits for a little while, but I am interested in AG and am reading John Palmer's How To Brew. My wife thinks I have become completely obsessed with my new hobby! :)

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.
