Any of the times I've been down and live music was playing, it was too loud. If I'm going to Rockbottom, it's for a few drinks and to socialize. Live music, played at a reasonable level would always go nice with that though...it's something I find H&T does right.

yeah the manager/bar staff should have access to the master levels for volume behind/or near the bar. It was terribly loud to the point that i was very disappointed with the staff for not getting a clue ( 75% of paying customers got up and left) . the room is small enough that a band with that many instruments does not require much of a pa system. I will not go again in the evening if the manager doesn't' grow a set and keep the atmosphere sane and tolerable.

I guess it depends: is the music being played for the benefit of the musicians, or for the bar patrons? Let's be honest, most open-mics are done for the musicians, and seem to be loud wherever you go, but a band being payed to play should be there for the customers (and of reasonable volume).

Both of these scenarios are way too loud at the RB. I avoid it during the music days/evenings because of this.

Wow – you guys just really know how to spin anything negative don’t you?

Alongside Garrison will also be Hell Bay, Rockbottom (3rd year attending) and Rogues Roost.

As for the other N.S. brewers, they get asked repeatedly every year at no cost aside from the beer - so it’s really their call based on quantity, manpower, and/or marketing issues.

Kind of unfortunate that brewers from here and away are participating with over 200 beers including 50 from Quebec alone while some notable locals stay away.

Free country though, yours and beer!

That's a heck of a way to win friends and influence people.

I don't see that anybody's spun it any more negatively than you just did: it's disappointing when you have a beer festival to which half of the local brewers don't want to come.

I assume you are referring to people talking negatively about the beerfest? if so, then im sorry but I have to agree (and stand up) with the others on this forum.

I went to beerfest 2 years ago and probably sampled about 20 different kinds of beer until the crowd got so packed that I couldn't move and had to leave early. I had numerous people spill drinks on me, the music was so loud I couldn't discuss with my friends about the samples, and I spent 30 minutes waiting in line to use the washroom. Normally I don't mind this kind of stuff, and I expect this at bars when I go downtown. But when I get to sample 20 beers at a price tag of $50 and have a horrible experience from the event then I don't see how this is "spinning" negativity. Call it what you will but it is fact. If the organizers of beerfest want to focus on beer and not supporting drunken patrons who sit and hang around the bud light lime tent all night and overselling tickets at a beer event then I would have no problem attending the event again.

Having said this, I do appreciate the effort involved within creating an event like this, and I am really glad to see other breweries around north america attending. I do want to attend this event again but im not likely too unless im certain that i'm going to be able to sample some beers without the headache of drunk people all around me.

Also you shouldn't falsely advertise the event as "Beer on the Pier", when the truth is its actually "Beer in the Parking Lot".
And hope that eventually there will be a true beer-fest event, with micro-breweries in mind and not deep pocketbooks, above all this is No place for Bud/coors- they're there because they pay the most money, and attract trashy people!!!

You won't see me or my friends at this event!!

It's also disappointing to have a beer festival that a good chunk of the Brewnosers won't go to and many past volunteers don't want to volunteer at again. Most of us aren't griping for the sake griping; we'd genuinely like to see the problems fixed and attend in good conscience. If you simply dismiss our concerns as negative spin rather than constructive criticism, then that's just one more reason for us to not participate this year. I don't like giving money to those who don't respect me.

+1

I want Meg back, at least she was nice!
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I'll be sure to pass on good wishes to Meg :)

Cheers!

it certainly speaks volume when the local home brewing community and some local breweries have difficulty in justifying attending the event. hopefully the promoters can look at this and make some needed changes to the event. i would see it as constructive criticism.

Tightass: Your marketing prowess is pure fucking genius. Let me get this straight; you claim you've come into this thread merely to inform everyone of who is attending the beer fest, one would assume you'd post that info in the Seaport Beerfest thread. You couldn't help yourself, just had to get a jab in there. Fuck me. Keep back-paddling. This is a forum for friends, brewers, foodies, intelligent adults and professionals, none of which you have a clue nor the capability to communicate with. I suggest you pack up, bullshit and all and fuck off
