Relays

Post by John G » Tue Mar 27, 2012 9:51 am

Hi all,
I'm just about finished with collecting parts to finish up my Eherms system and need to get some 30A DPDT relays with 120V coils for my control box. Anyone know the best place locally to get these for a reasonable price? On ebay I see them for about $30 each but shipping is another $45.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Sounds good. I'll bring my Rye IPA as well.

Have you considered using a contactor instead? The ones from Auber are a decent price (about $15 IIRC).

Not sure if you could make them work, but I have some 48V coil, 100A/600Vac contact relays I can give you.

I came up empty. All way too heavy duty.

No problem guys. I don't have 48V in my control panel Jayme but appreciate the offer. I'll probably go the route RubberToe suggested at Auber. Much better prices than the local suppliers I could find. Sometimes local suppliers are way off base with their pricing. I was looking for switches and LED pilot lights. A local supplier wanted $20-$30 each. I picked up 10 of them from an online source for a total of $38, shipping included. Crazy.

Just an update in case anyone's interested, I managed to find some contactors for a decent price/delivery from Newark online. Ordered afternoon and they'll be here Monday. I like the DIN mount option and they are somewhat sealed units that may keep me from electrocuting myself if i have my hands in the control panel when it's live (hopefully I remember not to do that anyway). These will be switching 5500W 240v heating elements.

John, how are you mounting stuff to your backplane?? Are you drilling and tapping for screws or using nuts?

I'm using nuts on the backside. I have a din bar to cut down on having to do too much with the backplane though.
