Re: Hoptoberfest 2015 - September 26, 2015
So, less than two weeks left till Fun Times! Based on the spreadsheet, we could use some folks to sign up for some side dishes. Brewdozer is taking care of the Hop Sausages and buns and condiments, so let's concentrate on some options to pair with them. Don't feel like you need to make side dishes for 30 people: enough to feed half that should suffice, assuming we get critical mass.
So, get on it!!
So, get on it!!

I'm out of town til the 23rd. Bringing beer and a 2 tap setup. Not sure I'll have time to prep a side dish but will probably bring some snack foods

The 26th sucks for me. That's the Port of Wines big show that I work every year. Will show up late.

Not allowed to drink while pouring. Can taste to make sure not corked. Usually go out after anyway.

Re: Hoptoberfest 2015 - September 26, 2015
Gingerbread Haus has already committed to a couple of huge orders for Oktoberfest on the waterfront for the same day as Hoptoberfest so they won't be able to make buns for us this year. Does anyone have another suggestion for a place to get sausage buns? I am thinking possibly 24 carrots bakery:

Re: Hoptoberfest 2015 - September 26, 2015
Someone had asked for a bit more information about what they could bring, so I responded via PM. Here's what I wrote, in case anyone else was wondering.
Also, I was thinking of mentioning Hoptoberfest on the ACBB next Friday. Is that OK with y'all, and specifically Kyle? I'll direct them to the forum, won't be giving away anyone's address!

Hi!
I saw your note on the spreadsheet about not being exactly sure what to bring to Hoptoberfest. Well, good news, it's easy! Just bring yourself, and a willingness to try some great homebrew and food! If you have homebrew to share, that's great! If not, no problem, we'll have lots. This is a good place to get feedback on your latest creation, and to chat about the process of recipe development, technique, or how to drink.
Food-wise, we will be cooking up a big batch of hop sausages (~$4 each), but a side dish or other snack would be appreciated. If you're not bringing beer, this is a great way to contribute. In the past we've had epic mac & cheese, hop candies, pickled hop shoots, etc, etc, etc.
Hoptoberfest is free, though a small gift for the host would be a nice touch. I hear he likes beer.
Fire any more questions my way, and I hope to see you next Saturday!
Cheers,
Chalmers

I think that's a good idea. I see those sorts of mentions as more of a way of driving traffic to the forum and club than to the event itself, as they show that we do have events worth attending. I'll add my address to this thread a day or so before Hoptoberfest.chalmers wrote:I was thinking of mentioning Hoptoberfest on the ACBB next Friday. Is that OK with y'all, and specifically Kyle? Anyone who has contacts at our favourite breweries and watering holes should mention it to them too. Last year a taxi full of Stillwell staff showed up after closing. It was nice to serve them for a change.

Dropped off some hops (Styrian Goldings) and beer (Garrison barley wine 2015) at Cavicchis' Meats this afternoon. I ordered 20lbs of sausages which should give us ~90 sausages, and 24 Carrots Bakery is making 8 dozen buns for us. I'll be picking the sausages up Friday evening and the buns on Saturday - can't get much fresher than that!
If people have a favourite condiment they could bring that too - beer mustard, beer BBQ sauce, or beer sauerkraut anyone?

Last year, we sold off any extras that weren't cooked up. But it got a bit screwy, so if you're able to give us a price on raw sausage and/or bun from the leftovers, that would be great. Don't want you to be on the hook for hundreds of dollars.

Yes, I have already been thinking a little bit about pricing. Tentatively, I think that a cooked sausage + bun at the event will be $4. This will cover the costs of food and propane, and will leave some extra for the club. After the event, I think $2 per sausage or $10 per 1/2 dozen (buns included in both of those prices) is a reasonable price for any extras.chalmers wrote:Awesome!Lucas wrote:Dropped off some hops (Styrian Goldings) and beer (Garrison barley wine 2015) at Cavicchis' Meats this afternoon. That certainly sounds reasonable to me, and sign me up for a 1/2 dozen, in case of overages.Lucas wrote: Yes, I have already been thinking a little bit about pricing. I don't have contacts with Gahan house or anyone else I can think of that would have ice. I do have a car though, and a cooler and some buckets. If somebody knows some people with ice, I don't mind helping cart it over.

I also don't have any ice contacts - anybody?
On a side note I am tasting the quick sour and Brett IPA that I brewed for Hoptoberfest. I am particularly happy with the sour and am excited to share it!

Well luckily my dad decided to take a shift on his 65th birthday hahaha. Seems he chooses to ignore retirement! So I'm able to come to hoptoberfest now! See you all there.

We had ice from Gahan last year. I was part of the pick up but not the contact.

Re: Hoptoberfest 2015 - September 26, 2015
Ok, I just spoke with the manager. They have been having some issues with their ice machine lately, so they're willing to help, but we may not get as much as we'd like. However, if we go tomorrow night they'll have more of a chance to restock overnight, so we can get more than if we got it in the morning.
To make this work, we're going to need a few volunteers. I have a 12 gallon cooler, and I can store ice in my chest freezer as well to haul over the next day. However, picking up ice from a bar downtown on a Friday night is going to mean extra hands, since I'm not looking for parking, then hauling ice back to my car several blocks away. I can drive, and Rob is going to come with me, but I'll need another person to help out. Also, if anyone on the peninsula has a large freezer and can store some plastic bags full of ice, that would be great too. Failing that, some extra coolers.
Edit - I'm heading there for 9:00.
