Re: Good deal on lump from Argentina
That's a good question. I think we should compile the answers into a new sticky. Although I haven't ordered anything from these guys yet, I was talking to the owner in New Glasgow, and he told me with enough lead time, he could get me anything off a pig or cow.

Chater's is a local butcher. An interesting operation you might want to check out (just not on the website, lol):

the pork shop is good stuff. Their original shop is out in a place called denmark (sorta halfway between truro and river john..), I've eaten lots of their pork. never asked for anything specific, though

Re: Good deal on lump from Argentina
Meadowbrook Farms is quite good. I had a side of beef there and really enjoyed it. In 2009 it was $2.35 a lb and in 2010 it was 2$2.59 a lb... so the prices aren't bad... I've also bought quite a few batches of sausages there when I don't have time to make my own. Their farm is located out in Berwick but they have a setup in a small booth in Alderney Landing Market on Saturdays 08:00 to 13:00... When I got my side I asked for the brisket and it was small at 5 lbs but super tasty... they do sides of pig as well...

Oh yes, got my 3 bags, just about to crank it up. I was just curious what was the 'really good stuff', or is that what I have?

Hi Cabby, I'll call you soon... been swamped at work... looking forward to trying it... like to buy both types off you... lump and briquettes... I love the more natural quality of lump but have had less success with it for long slow burns in my weber then with briquettes... talk soon. Larry

I've cooked fish and other stuff, no massive problems. But it did seem to require different vent settings to get the temp right. I like the low smoke effect.

Any difference in taste? Low/high ash?mr x wrote:I've cooked fish and other stuff, no massive problems. But it did seem to require different vent settings to get the temp right. I like the low smoke effect.
Were the big chunks easy to break up?
I guess I should just use the bag I have in the garage.

Re: Good deal on lump from Argentina
Ash is low. I find the taste just a bit less smokey. I don't break up the big chunks, I kinda prefer them.
