O2 setup - Options on where/what to buy

I haven't used it yet but I have been working at putting an oxygen setup together for the last couple of months.

For the air filter and stone part of the setup, I don't think you can do better than OBK's wand (I went for the wand after reading people complain about the pain of having a stone at the end of tubing and not being able to control placement). Managed to get this in a big order so shipping was negated.

The bugger is the regulator. I got in on Liam's BrewHardware.com group buy and picked up one of these. By the time USD exchange and customs were factored in, though, I figure I paid close to double that, over CAD$50 for sure. If you've got someone who can reship from the States you'd be laughing. HopDawgs is the only Canadian brewshop I know of that carries those, which they sell for $44.99 but have been out of stock on them for a while.

Your other option is to look at jewellery supply companies, but as an example Gesswein Canada has this one but by the time you add tax and shipping you're looking at CAD$100. Maybe plumbing supply companies? Medical supply companies (for small portable oxygen systems)? Or troll Kijiji for a someone (e.g., a jeweler) selling a Smith Little Torch or similar small oxy-acetylene or oxy-propane setup? I jumped on that BrewHardware buy pretty quick exactly so I wouldn't have to go hunting like this.

All in all I think you'll be lucky if you can get set up for $100 (which was my target, although I obviously didn't quite do that well).

Dave (Everwood) is bringing in complete set-ups (Tank/reg/wand)...and he currently has the 16" wands in stock...I think they are the same set-up that OBK sells...I don't know the price, but my guess would be Dave will have the best deal.
I was only really looking for the small set up for disposable o2 tanks for now...I'll hold off until July unless something great comes up. with grading, my anniversary, my folks anniversary and stanfest all happening within 3 weeks...I'm am lean on project funds

OBK's full setup is $238. I would be amazed if Dave can do it for much less than $200.

That said, especially for you living so close to Everwood, not paying shipping is going to be a big deal on something like that.

That's what I have. And I don't think it can be gotten together for less than $100 and even that would require getting lucky on the regulator.

Well shit.

I appear to be right about the $100 though especially if you want a proper wand ;)

Any chance one of the moderators can move our oxygen discussion to a separate thread, away from the competition thread? Thanks!

You guys should group buy medical O2 tanks, IIRC mine cost like $86. Filled it once for $8. EBay a flow metre or regular regulator for $20-50 and you're laughing.

I'll have these in about a week:

Tank, reg, tubing, wand all included. Around $200.

Patience my de-oxygenated friends, patience!

Hey Dave, Will you have just the regulator for sale as well?

I have a tank and stone. Just bought an extra tank so I don't have to take my oxy acetylene torch apart to brew. I just need the regulator.

Or the tank and regulator without the wand and filter assembly? Because, uh, yeah. *sob*
