Long time lurker, first time poster

Post by darciandjenn » Wed Oct 15, 2014 10:44 am

Hello there!

As the subject says, I've been lurking on the forum for some time now as I've found it to be an awesome resource for brewing / beer / miscellaneous knowledge. You folks really know your shit!

Now that I've got a legit question, I thought it was time to quit lurking and introduce myself.

The wife (Darci) and I have been brewing kits from NG and Everwood for almost a year. I think we're getting closer to branching out a bit and putting together some custom recipes but the kits have served us well so far.

Now for the question:

We're headed to Montreal this weekend for a hockey game and we'd like to have a few nice beers while we're there. Last time, we went to Brutopia which was fun but crazy. This time, I think we'll head to Dieu du Ciel and Le St.Bock but are there any other spots that we shouldn't miss? I'd also like to pick up some beers to bring home - anyone have any idea where we'd want to head for an interesting selection?

Cheers! :cheers2:
Jenn

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Welcome aboard!

Lots of great places to drink in Montreal, you'll have a blast!

DdC! and St Bock are great choices. Benelux in Verdun is great, though the one downtown is also good. Hopfenstark and Broue Ha Ha are other great brewpubs, Vices & Versa will have beers on tap from lots of Quebec breweries.

Peluso is the best beer store in town, Rahman is OK, I haven't been to Atwater Market, but hear it's quite good (plus they've got lots of cheese). Expect to find only Quebec beers in these stores, but there is something for all styles being brewed there now.

I use RateBeer, their mapping seems a bit superior to me. Here's Montreal: http://www.ratebeer.com/beermap?p=0&z=1 ... n=-7358781" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Try sorting by scores to give yourself a reasonable number of places to visit. :)
