East Coast Beer Tours

Post by shablizzam » Mon Aug 25, 2014 10:46 am

Hello Beer Enthusiasts!

My name is Scott Olszowiec and I just launched East Coast Beer Tours. Inspired by a a couple of trips to New England on a self guided beer tour with a couple of friends, I thought craft beer tours in Nova Scotia would be a great idea. So here it is...

East Coast Beer Tours is designing unique craft beer experiences for beer enthusiasts and those who are curious about beer.

We believe in good folks brewing good beer in good places and spaces. A great way to spend the day is to hit the road with your friends and check out what's brewing in your backyard.

Please visit http://www.eastcoastbeertours.com and check out the details on our inaugural Valley Tour. Hope to see some of you there!

We're on Facebook and Twitter too. Spread the word!

Thanks Evan! We're hoping it will be a success so we can create some more tours to get folks out to other breweries in the province. We're so spread out but luckily it's a relatively small province. Cheers and thanks for the share on Facebook.

Custom Brewnoser tour may be a good idea!

Great idea Derek. Once we get this tour under our belt we'll ve working on the next one! Hope to get out to other regions as we grow. Not necessarily just in Nova Scotia.

Hi Scott, Your tour includes Paddys. They are breaking in a new Brewster. I think she'll do very well :) she's one of us, and the beer there I think will do well also. Jeff at Bad Apple is also a Brewnoser and quite a character. It should be a good talk by him at the union street café.
According to Judith M. Bennett’s 1996 book, Ale, Beer, and Brewsters in England: Women’s Work in a Changing World, 1300-1600, a word that has all but disappeared from the English language is the word brewster, which had a clear meaning of a female brewer. Over time, the male term of brewer increasingly served for both sexes until the term brewster survived in limited use as a surname and in English law.

The same as losing the term brewster, we lost sight of a critical part of history, of women once brewing the vast majority, if not all, the beer before the Industrial Revolution. Once again the industry is shifting.

Thanks the encouragement folks! I think the day is going to be really enjoyable. We're giving this a shot and hope people respond. It's a lot of value for $99 with the free tours, tastings, basically a 2-3 hour live music, local bits and bites to keep the belly grumbles to a minimum but to leave enough room for beer.

Please spread the word on all your Facebook's, Twitters and the like. This is also an experiment of sorts, to see if something like this can be spread around with virtually no traditional marketing. Although, I will be in the city tomorrow armed with a ream of posters with the logo and url.

If there are any beer/food bloggers you think I should contact. Let me know.

Cheers to you all!

I'm interested, however tied up for this one. Best of luck in your venture. On a side note, how many people can you accommodate on these tours?

Unfortunately, The Union Street Cafe can't host us on that day due to a scheduling conflict with a large band setting up for a previously scheduled concert. Please check out http://www.unionstreetcafe.ca for their awesome line up of food and music. We hope to be there on future tours. We will still be meeting Jeff Saunders from Bad Apple Brewhouse and a new location that is permitted to serve and sell beer is in the works and the website will be update soon!

Cheers!

@Keith, thanks Chris is my first Twitter follower (thanks Chris) and I would love for all the food/beer bloggers, etc. to contact me for details on this tour and get the word out. I can be reached at beertours@shablizzam.com

The tour bus is a 30 passenger bus with space underneath and above, has restroom, mini-fridge, coffee machine and roomy. I am trying to sell 26 tickets at $99 (plus hst) each. We need room for the musician and just to keep it feeling less like a sardine can and more like a relaxed place to hang out while we move from point A to point B. Check http://eastcoastbeertours.com/products/ ... alley-tour for details for an interior photo of the bus.

Now my final question.
Is drinking our take home products between stops permitted on the bus? I think anyone on the tour would love to be able to take advantage of the onboard bathroom.

I know that answer - No, not allowed. Liquor regulations and all that.

Yeah, we checked and hoped that it could be allowed but because the driver is not closed off from from where open liquor would be, they technically have access to it and it is not allowed. I may start to lobby to change this but NS Liquor Laws are almost prohibitionist sometimes :) We will have coffee on board, so bring a reusable mug :)

However, there are 3 stops and plenty of opportunity for free samples and Paddy's sell beer by the pint and the new venue in Berwick will be licensed too! So lots of opportunity to wet your whistle.

Just called Alcohol & Gaming one last time to be really, really sure… "open liquor is not allowed on ANY vehicle in Nova Scotia" per Liquor Control Act. Even tour buses.

Welcome aboard, Scott! Happy to be the first follower! You're starting something that I've seen run very well in Portland (and the rest of Maine), and had dreams of doing myself, but kudos to you for pulling the trigger.

We'll be sure to share the details with folks on Friday's blog post. Unsure if you saw my email, but I did have a couple more questions that would be great to also share with interested readers.

For folks keeping track, the Valley Tour is happening on Oct 11th now, and is $50+HST.

Stopping at Meander River, Paddys Irish Brewpub and Bad Apple Brewhouse. Samples provided at all stops, plus some snacks and light lunch.

Hey Brewnosers,

Firs tour was great! Check out blog post at: http://eastcoastbeertours.com/blogs/new ... to-success" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Working on next schedule for road trip down the South Shore. If you have an suggestions or heads up on places to get craft beer, let me know.
For example, what is the status of the brewery that was going to open in Lunenburg?

Cheers!

I'd love to take a tour of breweries up in NB personally and not having to worry about driving would be that much better. :cheers2:
