A company I work with, Stromline, is assessing the viability of a home heating oil smart meter that facilitates a group buying model to obtain below market prices on oil. We are currently gathering market validation and I thought many of the techie brewnosers would be interested. Details are below; apologies if you consider this spam...
Are you a homeowner that heats with oil? If so, keep reading...
Stromline Technologies is a Halifax-based startup that is going to change the way you buy home heating oil. We’ve developed a smart meter that can let you know exactly how much oil is in your tank, exactly how much you use each day, and automatically order oil for you at the lowest price. By implementing a group purchasing strategy, we are able to offer lower than market prices on home heating oil.
StromSense allows homeowners to:
• Save money on oil by always getting you the best price
• Have peace of mind by eliminating oil run-outs
• Potentially detect oil leaks by alerting you of unusual changes in your consumption
• Reduce consumption by monitoring daily use and adjusting heating behaviors accordingly
We are gauging consumer interest, so we need your feedback. Please go on our website and read about our awesome startup. Then do the 10-question survey so we can learn more about our customers. It takes less than 4 minutes, I promise!

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it.

Re: oil smart meter
Hi Peter,
Are you aware of the oil buyers group that http://ViewPoint.ca put together last year? We put a notice up on the site to gauge interest and got a huge response and opt in from our very targeted audience. We sent an RFP to 10 oil companies to bid on the contract and chose the one which was the best deal for the customer. You can still see the details of the deal here: http://www.viewpoint.ca/oil2.
I was also a customer of this and saved a bunch of money on my furnace oil last year. Unfortunately we're not doing it again for various reasons.
If you want a contact at my office just shoot me a PM. You might want to consider ads on ViewPoint too since a large portion of our audience has been involved in something like this.
