LF: Spent grains
I've been reading over the BIAB post, thinking that when I am ready to try all grain that is the route I will start out on, and I thought how convenient it would be for collecting the grains afterwards for compost. I live in Dartmouth and have a rather large food garden (currently only one hop plant, but plans for expansion), seeing as I just started it this year I'm in need of lots of compost. Leaves are a plentiful source of carbon, but I am short on nitrogen now that the lawn isn't growing so the spent grains would be a good alternative source for making a more balanced compost heap. For any of you brewers that live nearby that are currently green binning your well drained spent grains, I'd be grateful if you'd consider putting them aside for me instead and promise to pick them up in a timely fashion. You'll have the gratification of helping another brewer and the knowledge that (at least some of the grains) will be reincarnated as hops.

I should probably be composting as well but continue to chuck them into the green bin. Wherabouts in Dartmouth are you? I'm in Woodlawn.

I never know what to do with my spent grains. In the winter they go in the green bin. But summer time they really get stinky in there so i freeze them in my chest freezer. Then when green bin day comes a long I put them in the bin. Its a pain in the ass. If you want to swing by and pick them up id be happy to bag them for you.

Not to compete with OldMalt, but if anyone in the Fall River area has spent grains, I'd be happy to take them off your hands to feed my chickens.

Thanks, just let me know with a private message when they are available and I will arrange to pick them up.mattvincent24 wrote:If you want to swing by and pick them up id be happy to bag them for you.
I'm sure there are enough brewers here to support my garden and your chickens.
