Andy is applying high-pressure Hoptoberfest marketing tactics on me. Sounds like a great time.

Excellent news. Just waiting on Chalmers to modify the fancy brewnosers google calendar and we're set to go!
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

Re: Hoptoberfest 2013 - Sept 28
Hi all
This sounds like fun but I can't see where it is to be held. I have a house warming that I really must attend the day/night before but it's a definate maybe if the logistics are doable.
Ernie
Currently I have:
Drinking -
Beer - Nothing.
Wine - Pinot Gris with Elderflower (it's actually okay).
Conditioning - An IPA (more classically IPA than North American IPA/APA) based on a FestaBrew Pale Ale hopped with 1oz of Cascade (I know they aren't classic IPA hops but I think they'll work well) in the secondary (which went for 3.5 weeks). It's 7%.
Primary -
Beer - Czech (Gambrinus is my aim) lager. Based on FestaBrew European Pilsner but hopped in primary with 40g of Saatz and will bulk prime with 1 cup of Wheat Malt Extract (60% Wheat/40% pale malt) for head and for the Gambrinus character. Yeast is Wyeast Czech Pils.
Wine - Cab Sauv/Merlot.
Secondary - Nothing

I am going to pm the address on an individual basis, just to keep it off the internet in general. Suffice to say, it is quite close by the Halifax Forum.

Sounds like fun, and as it happens I put on an Oktoberfest brew last weekend, so by the 28th it should be good to go. If I bring it by keg, in a ball lock or pin lock?
I've brewed: Oktoberfest, Belgian Tripple, Summer Ale (Keiths Clone), Home Brewed Ginger Ale, Rory's Red Irish Ale, Honey Brown, Russian Imperial Stout, Krölsch

Re: Hoptoberfest 2013 - Sept 28
Either is good, though most of us run ball lock. CO2 connections won't be an issue, just need to bring a thumb tap or other faucet as a backup (in case the nice towers are full).Cobalt wrote:Sounds like fun, and as it happens I put on an Oktoberfest brew last weekend, so by the 28th it should be good to go. I should have 2 CO2 tanks, but a couple more might be good.

I should be able to bring CO2 with 7 ball lock connections again this year.
If the sausage idea is going to happen and gluten is an issue, meadowbrook doesn't use filler in their sausages - they were talking about that at the big sausage fest picnic today. Though if you're drinking beer I'm not really sure why gluten in sausage would be a real issue..?
Gavin and I will conjure up some sort of a side or snack to bring - not sure what yet though. Also going to brew an IPA next weekend.

Re: Hoptoberfest 2013 - Sept 28
My wife and I are sensitive to wheat somewhat, but we don't have to eat the sausages. It isn't a gluten thing, it's a wheat thing I think, as we sure can drink the beer without problems
Actually lots of people are reading that wheat belly book these days and going off wheat also. If you stay away from wheat for a few weeks and then eat some, it really gets you, and makes you feel lousy.
Also there might be someone with true celiac disease wanting to attend...not sure, but there must be some on here as it is fairly common.
But please don't go out of your way on our account. We are hoping to come, but it depends on the baby sitter situation.
...Then there's the vegetarians, and the Jewish People, and the people with peanut allergies. It isn't possible to cater to everyone's needs and tastes.
