Jimmy, are you still using the same bag matterial as you started with?
I am thinking of getting a larger and more porous bag that will make 44L and high gravity batches easier to do. Right now I have about 10Kg of malt (dry) in those situations and lifting the bag is extremely difficult even with a pulley. A more porous bag will drain faster and will therefore be easier to lift out of the wort. I'm also thinking about getting a bigger pully (and use two of them).

Yeah, still using the same material... I'll talk to Becky and see if there's anything else we can use. It's a fine line, and I don't think there's any material available locally that would fit the description.

Hey Jimmy & Becky.
Thumbs up. The sheer voile is so fine that the cooler top can still thread into place with ease. AWESOME

Thanks for sharing the pics, Dean. How's the bag fit otherwise?

Bang on. The size of the cooler itself is overkill for my 1 gal stove-top batches, but this leaves me with room to grow. cheers,

Just ordered a bag for my small rectangular cooler I was going to use as a MT for 3V. Here's hoping it'll solve the issues I'm having maintaining temps in my BK.

I think this hybrid BIAB method will be exactly what you're looking for. Heat retention is the main reason I'm using the cooler method (as well as the fact that you no longer have to lift/hold the grain bag out of your kettle). I find the cooler adds VERY little extra cleaning time since it's literally just a quick spray and it's clean. There are a few guys on here using this method, and AFAIK they are quite happy with it.

It's a great way to get into all grain. Fairly cheap, and definitely less intimidating compared to the traditional method.

Did a quick strength test tonight. We put 85lbs of grain in a keggle bag I had kicking around and it wasn't a problem

How do those hop spider bags do with filtering pellets?

They filter pellet hops great, but you need to squeeze the bag to get it to drain - the hop sludge covers the material and prevents it from draining. My honest recommendation if you're going with the OBK pot would be to use a side pickup and whirlpool (assuming you want to prevent hops from entering the fermenter).
