Lager Like Ale

Post by RubberToe » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:33 am

Hey everyone, I'm looking to brew a lager like ale this weekend. I am too low on beer to brew a real lager right now.

Recipe Specifications
--------------------------
Batch Size (fermenter): 22.0 l
Estimated OG: 1.045 SG
Estimated Color: 6.2 SRM
Estimated IBU: 29.6 IBUs
Brewhouse Efficiency: 77.00 %
Est Mash Efficiency: 80.5 %

Ingredients:
------------
Amt Name Type # %/IBU
2600.0 g Pilsner (2 Row) Bel (2.0 SRM) Grain 1 61.9 %
600.0 g Munich Malt (CMC) (8.0 SRM) Grain 2 14.3 %
500.0 g Melanoiden Malt (20.0 SRM) Grain 3 11.9 %
500.0 g Special Aromatic (MFB) (4.0 SRM) Grain 4 11.9 %
14.0 g Saaz [4.00 %] - First Wort 60.0 min Hop 5 7.6 IBUs
10.0 g Northern Brewer [10.60 %] - First Wort 6 Hop 6 14.4 IBUs
25.0 g Saaz [4.00 %] - Boil 20.0 min Hop 7 7.5 IBUs
1.00 Items Whirlfloc Tablet (Boil 15.0 mins) Fining 8 -
25.0 g Saaz [4.00 %] - Aroma Steep 5.0 min Hop 9 0.0 IBUs
1.0 pkg Safale American (DCL/Fermentis #US-05) Yeast 10 -

Single infusion, no decoction. I'm using a bit of the Franco Belges Special Aromatic and some melanoiden malt so that should help. Do you think this should be all right? I'm mostly concerned with the timing and amounts of the last two Saaz additions.

Thanks,
-Rob

I don't see anything wrong in there.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

I do a very tasty similar beer with some pils & wheat with Saaz at 15min and 5min, so it looks great to me. I use Notty at 16C to get a nice clean ferment, but s-05 tastes great. Brew on!

I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chamber of my brain -
Quaintest thoughts - queerist fancies
Come to life and fade away;
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe

Yeah the keg is probably over half gone! I'm going to brew an Octoberfest like this maybe this weekend too.
