December 13 2021 - All Ryell'ed Up West Coast Rye IPA
All Ryell'ed Up - West Coast Rye IPA
I offered up to Paul to brew for the swap at my place since he liquidated his gear. His classic Rye Pale Ale came in a bit low on OG (perhaps I have to check my mill gap closer). To compensate we added some sugar in secondary to recover the gravity points which dropped it super dry @ 1.004 pushing it to damn fine WC RIPA!
Recipe Specifications
--------------------------
Batch Size (fermenter): 44.00 l
Bottling Volume: 44.00 l
OG: 1.066
FG: 1.004
ABV: 6.6%
Estimated Color: 8.0 SRM
Estimated IBU: 45.8 IBUs
Brewhouse Efficiency: 68.00 %
Boil Time: 60 Minutes
Ingredients:
------------
8.06 kg Viking Pale Ale Malt (3.0 SRM) 61.7 %
1.67 kg Viking Rye Malt (3.6 SRM) 12.8 %
1.14 kg Viking Munich Malt Light (8.1 SRM) 8.7 %
0.57 kg Victory Malt (25.0 SRM) 4.4 %
0.41 kg Viking Cookie Malt (30.5 SRM) 3.2 %
1.20 kg Cane (Table) Sugar (0.0 SRM) 9.2 % (dissolved, boiled and added to secondary)
Hops
_______
1.00 oz Simcoe [12.50 %] - Boil 60.0 min 17.3 IBUs
1.00 oz Simcoe [12.50 %] - Boil 30.0 min 13.3 IBUs
1.00 oz Centennial [9.90 %] - Boil 20.0 m 8.3 IBUs
1.00 oz Centennial [9.90 %] - Boil 10.0 m 5.0 IBUs
1.00 oz Cascade [6.60 %] - Boil 5.0 min 1.8 IBUs
3.00 oz Amarillo [8.90 %] - Dry Hop 5.0 Day 0.0 IBUs
I also grabbed the unlabeled box of bottles opposed his awesome Mack Daddy Brewing stickered bottles. My apologies.

Great beer right here. Rye is up front and center , nice malt backbone. Hops are doing what they should. Dry as a bone , which makes me come back for more , and more and more ....... well it's gone now. Really enjoyed this one Paul. Not bad for a guy from Sydney
P.S. how about a bigger bottle next time

This is one tasty beer! The rye is apparent and the citrusy hops dance along side. The bitterness certainly pushes more IPA than pale but doesn’t overwhelm.

Quite enjoyed this one. Nice balance of rye spiciness and citrusy hops. Bitterness was bracing but not overpowering. Great job, and thanks.

I enjoyed this one as it warmed up a bit. Lots of bitterness, rye present, dry as a bone.

Mine was barely capped and flat. Using screw top bottles is way too risky. Not sure if I'll finish drinking it.
Edit: Actually, I have an idea....

I can get you a better bottle if you would like as well. I think some backup bottles got mixed in with the proper bottles. Sorry about that!
