Cowtown Yeast Wranglers Annual Roundup 2013

Post by Tony L » Sun Jan 13, 2013 8:20 pm

Looks like a deadline is established, but nothing official on their site yet. Here is part of a notice there.

As announced at the January meeting, the deadline for this year's Homebrew Roundup is February 15, 2013. Please stay tuned for complete competition details and regulations, which will be coming out in the next week. For those of you who participated in last year's Roundup, expect no real changes to the rules of the competition. As soon as the competition website is updated and prepared for this year's competition,

Much the same as any other in the west. They have ( I think ) on-line registration, with all BJCP styles accepted and any points awarded goes to the point system of http://www.canadianbreweroftheyear.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

I'll post any updates when I see them on their site.

I can never get organized enough to do these things. I love seeing the rest of you doing it though. Good luck!

The big pain is paying for shipping and misery loves company, so I like to see others sharing in my pain

But I do love entering competitions. Most of the time I get good feedback, especially with the judges from the western competitions.

Argh, the deadline is next Friday for this one. I bottled a bunch on Tues night and will be doing some more tonight so I can pack and send off Friday morning.

Tony, who are you using to ship? What do you say is in the box, etc? Marked as fragile?

With it being February and all, is it possible that the contents will freeze?

I went with UPS ground.. still cost me $45 or so. I mark it as yeast samples when using UPS. When I use Canada post ( which
the competition organizers don't recommend for delivery purposes ) nothing is necessary to write in. Just make sure it
is packed well in a plastic bag to contain breaks. I use a styrofoam lined box and pack each bottle with bubble wrap and
place that in a garbage bag and tie the bag. I haven't had one break yet.
As for freezing... who knows what abuse our entries take when it leaves our hands. Probably why local entries do better than ones
sent to them. At least theirs aren't shook to shit when it is delivered to them.

I fully intended on submitting a few beers to the Roundup, but then life got in the way... and I got lazy.

I may try to get a couple in the Werthogs comp.

I'm going to try and get one ready tonight. How many bottles are required? I can't find that info on the page anywhere.

Ouch on that shipping price!
Not sure if it matters, but I always send packages on Monday, so they're not sitting in a frozen (or v. hot) warehouse/truck/outside over the weekend.

Good luck to everyone!

I didn't enter in the end. Only really had one beer we could sent, and didn't think it is medal worthy. I didn't think feedback alone is worth the price of entry/shipping.
