Im not sure if anyone in the bcjp group has talked to garrison or not. I'll mention it to Tracy at the next meeting since she works there now. Either way though, it would still be fun to hold that event again if you're willing!

Regardless who is judging, I'm up for an event like last year's!

I'm thinking I'm going to have a hard time bringing myself to actually brew this through the winter. So many dark beers I want to brew..

It was the opposite for me! Not that I ever really need an excuse to make more beer.

Only BJCP in the Maritimes... I was under the impression it was not a BJCP event?

It has been the last two years at least ( I didn't enter the two before that). I think you just have to follow bcjp rules - doesn't matter that only one style is accepted as far as I know.

It's officially posted on their website now.

http://www.garrisonbrewing.com/accounts ... 0Sheet.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Looks like they're not risking another controversy from when Kelly won last year:

"To keep things fair, commercial brewers or those completing brewer training and/or apprenticeships are also not eligible."

I got to meet and work with Kelly at Beau's. I'm hoping to see her at the gala.

I agree, I don't think it matters that there is only one style. I just did not see the event listed on the BJCP website. Either way, I am still going to enter.

Hey everyone, Katie here from Garrison. I registered the event with BJCP this week but the treasurer is on vacation so you won't see in there until next week or so.

Yeah you are right. I was thinking that was the dekonick vss number. There is another vss strain they release.
Here's the strain I was thinking of (available in January):

Wyeast 3655-PC Belgian Schelde Ale Yeast

Beer Styles: Belgian Pale Ale, Belgian Specialty Ale, Belgian Dubbel and Tripel, Belgian Strong Golden and Dark Ales, Belgian Blonde Ale, Flanders Brown/Oud Bruin
Profile: From the East Flanders - Antwerpen region of Belgium, this unique top fermenting yeast produces complex, classic Belgian aromas and flavors that meld well with premium quality pale and crystal malts. Well rounded and smooth textures are exhibited with a full bodied malty profile and mouthfeel.

Alc. Tolerance 11% ABV
Flocculation medium
Attenuation 73-77%
Temp. Range 62-74°F (18-22°C)

I find it odd to have Flanders Brown lumped in there... Unless the idea is to add bugs after an initial fermentation with that strain. At any rate, sounds like a decent choice for a Blond. Have you talked to Noble Grape about ordering it yet?

I used that same strain a few years ago when they had it in their private collection then... it definitely doesn't include bugs or make a sour beer. I, too, find it odd they mention the Oude Bruin...

Anyway, I used it for a Belgian Pale Ale and it turned out to be a good yeast... I believe it's the De Koninck strain.

Just curious........for the folks that enter and don't live in the Halifax area, does Garrison mail you the t-shirt and 6 pack or does it have to be picked up?

I would contact Garrison and ask if they'd be willing to mail it to you. Typically you receive your shirt, results and 6-pack coupon at the door when you go to the Gala.

To add to Jayme's comments, I highly recommend making the trip to the Gala! I made the trip last year from Cape Breton, and I'll be heading again this year. Well worth it!

It's fast approaching! Mine has been kegged for a week and is tasting good. I'll probably do up some bottles this weekend.

How's everyone's brew going? Don't forget to save some for the Brewnosers party!

Mine's been kegged for a little over a week, still hoping to get more carbonation before bottling... tasting good as well! When is the Brewnoser's party? That same weekend?
