2013 VanBrewer Awards Competition

Post by RubberToe » Fri Apr 05, 2013 3:13 pm

Hey everyone, I just noticed that the Vanbrewers have already announced their competition:

http://www.vanbrewers.ca/
http://vanbrewerawards.ca/

Registration is open until April 20, entries accepted between April 6 and April 20. It would be nice to have ALES feedback before sending in but I think it's too close.

Yeah, I don't think I can send anything to this, but I noticed you are 6th, RubberToe in points for Canadian Brewer of the Year and the Brewnosers are 5th (ahead of ALES)

Woot! Yeah, I'm on the hook now for the rest of this year's competitions. We seem to have a good turnout for ALES and I hope we can keep the ball rolling for the whole year, maybe catch up to and pass some clubs ahead of us. We have a good start considdering we were on their turf.

I may have to enter here, since I missed the deadline on ALES.

I'm going to have to get my ass in gear and send in something soon. I missed the Ales and will miss the Vanbrewers one, but I should be able to dig up something to send to Edmonton and possibly to Ont.

Ground shipping for this would have to leave in the next couple of days. Fedex ground is 6 business days and the deadline is next Saturday. I wanted to run off some fresh bottles for this but I may just have to send what I have ready.

Last time I got a 18"x12"x12" box and it was on the large side. Is anyone else thinking of entering? If I don't ship by Thursday I'll be using the 3 day express saver again. Shipping that way costs roughly $10 an entry.

Do you know what it might cost per entry for ground shipping?

I think I'll try to send a few samples to this one. Not much time though. I'll see if I can get them out tomorrow night.

If I can bottle some before the meeting tonight I might be able to make the ground shipping. If not, I'll be doing the 3 day. We can discuss at the meeting tonight.

According to Canada Post, a 6 pack would cost $20.74 to ship and take up to 9 business days for ground shipping (add a little for the larger box with packing). To guarantee delivery we would have to send them today, and there's no way I'm getting mine out today. Maybe I'll just wait until the Aurora challenge, I'll have a few more beers ready by then that may be good.

Your package will be a lot bigger than a 6 pack if it's packaged properly. I line my box with a layer of bubble wrap and another layer of cardboard, and wrap each bottle in a layer of bubble wrap (dollar store stuff). All bottles go inside a garbage bag and I pad the excess space with newspaper.

Judging dates are from Thurs Apr 25 - Sat Apr 27 so we should get the results Sat night or Sunday.

Did anyone else enter besides Tim and I?
