Congrats guys! We will have to have a competition here SOON. Once the bunch of us studying for the BJCP exam get that done, it would be prime time to start organizing something.

Excellent job guys, and glad that we had so many entries sent in. We really do rock! Let's keep the ball rolling into the next comp, put the Brewnosers into the running of Club if the Year!

Re: Cowtown Yeast Wranglers Annual Roundup 2013

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

For us to have a local competition here, what are the current stumbling blocks? Lack of BJCP judges in the area? It would be fantastic to have a local competition similar to the yeast wranglers, werthogs, etc.Jayme wrote:Congrats guys! We will have to have a competition here SOON. I would say that's number 1. Number 2 is of course the logistics of putting the whole things together! My thought would be maybe to have something in the late summer or fall.

If we want this on the Canadian Brewer of the Year 'circuit' we should contact them too.Jayme wrote:I would say that's number 1. Number 2 is of course the logistics of putting the whole things together! My thought would be maybe to have something in the late summer or fall.
BTW - if my scoring is right, the Brewnosers have 9 points from 1 competition. We only had 5 points last year

Yeah I got him in my sights, lol. He's one of the guys in the running for brewer of the year. http://www.canadianbreweroftheyear.com/winners.htm BJCP Judge too. I'd love to taste his beer.bluenose wrote:did you notice that Mark Whitehead from Lethbridge placed in almost every category? Incidentally, we beat the current brewer of the year with the pilsner.

I went into this thing figuring if you don't compete, you can't win. It's a lot of work (and money) to get the brews ready, pack up, and send out though. I'm not sure how much I can keep this up but I plan on entering the rest of the competitions this year.
I strongly feel that there are a lot of really good brewers amongst us Brewnosers, we just gotta get the brews out there. If you are thinking of competing just go for it!
