Damned acetobacter

Post by akr71 » Wed Apr 13, 2011 9:32 pm

I just tossed 6 gallons of malt vinegar down the drain. I'm not really sure where/how I picked up the acetobacter - I didn't really do anything different on that batch, but it caused me nothing but problems from the beginning. Guess it doesn't really matter how - it was un-fixable and is gone now. I'm more pissed off that I couldn't add the West Yorkshire Ale yeast to my collection.

Production at Townshend Brewery is really suffering lately. I have a bum ankle that barely holds me up right now - I can't imagine what a brew day would do to me.

lol, it's here for the taking if anybody wants to use it. :silent:

I believe I have some West Yorkshire in the fridge that is still viable enough to step up. If you really want some again.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

I'll probably be OK. I ordered the English Ale strain that's part of this season's Private Collection (Thames Valley II).

The fermentation pushed the lid off and I didn't notice for close to a day and a half. The lid just sits loosely on top of the bucket - I'm not afraid of open fermentation, but I basically gave the beasties a free pass since the krausen gummed up the lid and spilled down the outside of the bucket.
