Christmas Beer Exchange?
I was reading this post on one of those "other" forums. And it struck me as a great idea. Think there'd be enough interest in doing the same sort of thing here?

How about names of people who want to do it thrown in a hat, you get a name picked from the hat for you, and you send/take some of your house beer to that person? The person picked for you could be from a local hat from your area to make things a bit easier.

I really like this idea. That way you would have some on hand around Christmas anyhow.GuingesRock wrote:How about names of people who want to do it thrown in a hat, you get a name picked from the hat for you, and you send/take some of your house beer to that person?

I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe

Or we could do it like the single hop brew exchange went down. Everyone gets like a mixed six or something.

I would be in but I would like to keep it simple. Maybe pick a style, OG and date to deliver.

Dear Santa, I can't say that I have been really good this year, but I'd like a Brewnoser t-shirt, or maybe a scarf.
Is there a place people could order one and have it shipped to the person that's been picked for them to receive a gift. If enough people wanted to do that it might work....easier than shipping beer.

I like the thought of simple, but wonder if style/OG locks it down too much? What about saying 3 bottles of your choice names thrown in a hat, and pairings are generated? Then we can all draw from our personal stock and don't have to worry about brewing an entire batch of a style we may not want.GAM wrote:I would be in but I would like to keep it simple. Re: Christmas Beer Exchange?
What I like about the HBT beer exchange is you get a bunch of stuff you'd never brew normally. If I'm going to participate I'd like to make it worth my while by getting more then one different beer. This idea is all about stocking the beer fridge with lots of fun holiday-type beer. My concern about allowing everyone to just dip into their stash is that I might end up with 10 slightly different IPAs. Not knocking the IPA, but it's a lot of effort to go through to get very little variety. Assigning/choosing a style would allow someone who has a bottled batch already to use that if they choose to provide that style. If you were worried about getting board with the half batch you'd have left over, we could do something like this: if 10 ppl decide to participate, everyone exchanges 2 litres of your 20L batch, at the end of it we each have 2 litres of 10 different styles. That way if you don't like a particular beer you only have 4 pints to give away.benwedge wrote: I like the thought of simple, but wonder if style/OG locks it down too much? I'm out for logistical reasons. I'll see if the SAAZ & Moncton wanna do something similar here.
