What's on your to-brew list?

Post by RubberToe » Thu May 09, 2013 1:06 pm

Hey everyone, I keep a list of brews I want to do next and some are wierd ideas that I haven't gotten around to yet. I thought this would be a fun topic.

On the normal side, my next brews will be: ordinary bitter, ESB, pilsner, APA, and an Oktoberfest I plan to lager until the Hoptoberfest perty.

On the not so normal side, my ideas are:
-Cider with lots of homemade dark candi syrup.
-A really dry barley wine with fruity hops.
-English barley wine, single malt boiled down and lots of melanoiden reaction (like wee heavy?)
-Oatmeal red ale with tonnes of oats.

So whatcha got?

My wife wants me to make her a clone of Fruli Strawberry Belgian beer this summer. I will need to do some research first.
Bottled: ESB, Old Peculiar, Blonde Lager, Grolsch clone
On Tap: BCS Dry Stout, Festabrew Cervesa
Next: Grolsch clone 2.0, Irish ale

This type of list is always changing for me; I can never make up my mind! But I have a couple of clones planned for the near-future: Russian River Blind Pig, and a re-brew of a Kern River Citra DIPA I did last fall.

I'd also like to do another sour soon, so maybe an Oude Bruin. And I may try doing some single-hopped IPAs, to get a better feel for what each hop brings to the table.

My list changes pretty frequently too, but the next few brews I'm planning are: a Rye Saison, a Session IPA, a fairly light Pale Ale, and my house IPA.

Like a few others here, my list too changes quite frequently. Some planned beers coming soon will be a Watermelon Wheat, Blood Orange Hefe, Smashbomb Atomic IPA clone, and my house APA.

Now you've gone and got me thinking about how to do this! Can I make the white beer, add the strawberry, keg and then cold crash to keep the yeast inactive?

There's a few recipes out there, I made one last year. I've never had the real thing, but my friend was happy with the result. The process is almost exactly as you describe, though I didn't cold crash.
Brewing right now: whatever is going on tap at Stillwell in a few weeks.

I may have used the word "crash" inappropriately. Did you store the kegged beer at refrigerator temperatures to stop fermentation? Also, do you still have the recipe you used?

No, I let it ferment for a while, then transferred in to the secondary, then added strawberry stuff. No refrigeration available at the time. I also don't have the recipe anymore. It was a pretty standard white I think. I didn't take notes 'cause it was a favour for a friend and I didn't plan any repeats.

I tried the blood orange from extreme brewing and it wasn't all that orangey could have been the orange but it tasted like a plain old hefe

I'm thinking of trying to get a few single hops done and maybe try and I'm a sucker for the sorachi ace and would love to try and make something similar , also something similar to juniper ale.

Tony, I was planning on brewing Jeff's clone recipe @ Hoptomology.

He seemed to be very happy with his results.

And the recipe he made.

I too love this beer! I'll be picking up a few in Halifax in a few days for sure!

Good to know as I haven't brewed one before. I'm gonna give it a shot, and hopefully can find some blood oranges locally.

I mixed some cold brewed coffee with a sample of my recently bottled Columbus oat pale ale. Tasted pretty nice. Thinking about making a beer that combines those hops and coffee.

Am I the only one disturbed by this post? Mr. Norton, do you have a brother by the name of Ed? Maybe he's been in a couple movies, maybe one about a 'Fight Club'?

To brew sooner than later:
weizen, kolsch, IIPA, 80/-

Things I've been meaning to brew, but keep putting off:
spruce ale, wee heavy, something called a Belgian 80 Franc (still working out the details)

I bottled off my FM Smashbomb Atomic IPA clone tonight. I think this will be a staple of mine if I can score more Citra.

That's on my "to brew" list Tony......keep me posted on what you think of it. Was it the Hoptomology's clone recipe that you brewed?
