Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
I've been thinking on doing a porter with fruit. I had been thinking raspberry's. would need to get the flavour pretty strong to con through.
planning: beer for my cousin's wedding
Fermenting: black ipa
Conditioning:
Kegged: barrel barleywine from 2014 - i think i still have this somewhere

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
I just kegged a raspberry brown for my wife. I brewed the brown like normal, then added a bottle of raspberry oil from the bulk barn. It's supposed to be 4x stronger than regular extract. It comes through pretty well.

I'm just going to be using ~6lbs. of frozen blackberries for my Porter. My brother in law has been freezing loads of them for me since they started ripening.

Well sure you can use real berries if you want to be authentic. Quick and easy for me (at least when its the wifes beer).lol

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
Here's one for ya, "Hoptoberfest Ale".
I crushed the grains last night, pre heated strike water this morning, came home at lunch to reheat strike water and mash in, mashed all afternoon while I was at work, met Jamie here after work and we did the rest. 44L batch. It's kind of a cross between an Octoberfest and Dusseldorf Altbier. Filtered water plus a small amount of minerals. Dry US-05 yeast.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
We're going to brew a double IPA for Hoptoberfest (same recipe that won gold, with a minor tweak to the hop bill), and a Nelson Sauvin single hop pale ale this weekend. Feels good to get back at it after pretty much not brewing for a month (with the exception of last monday).

I'm making a mild ale this weekend. Poker season is coming up so I need something I can drink a lot of and still be able to count.

Looks like I'll be doing the hoptoberfest brew tomorrow as well. I had already made one that I planned on bringing, but I was pouring a few pints for some friends and it mysteriously ran dry. Not sure how that could have happened...
We've got our best people working on the problem.

Perhaps you should also consider brewing something extremely strong that is around the same SRM as your mild. That one is for the other playersamartin wrote:I'm making a mild ale this weekend. Poker season is coming up so I need something I can drink a lot of and still be able to count.

In the fermentor now I have a 2-row / Nugget SMASH APA. I simmered the wort + FWH for 18 hours @ 182F which gave it some body and colour. Thanks to Nash for this technique. I can't wait to taste this and I'll be dry hopping with some more nugget.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
I made a Smoked Black Lager, Pumpkin Ale, and India Pale Lager over the weekend with Chalmers.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Re: What's everyone making this weekend?
400L of Redneck Red Ale made today. Thanks to my new Glycol chiller I can control this much wort. It was a god brew day, awaiting more things to make it go smoother. Had some trouble with my Monster Mill, will have to figure that out soon. Eff was lower than expected, and since I am out of FermcapS things were interesting for a bit. I thought a 750L kettle wouldn't boil over but apparently I was mistaken. All in all things went well, including the fact the wife brought me 2 meals and never complained.

Brewing this SMaSH up tomorrow, hope it turns out ok. Probably not enough hops for most, but I was hoping to be more on the APA side then the IPA side of things. I really want to see what the roasted MO brings.
