Re: What's everyone brewing?
Just took a sample of my Krenum Imperial Stout. It landed at 9.7% and has a wicked roast flavour (I cold steeped Chocolate and Carafa II), albeit a bit hot as it's only been 2 weeks since I made it.

Re: What's everyone brewing?
Almost done my mash for a brown ale. Most of the ingredients are pretty old so hopefully that won't be too noticeable. Nottingham yeast for this since my act isn't together enough to whip up some wlp007.
Sent from the brew timer.

Re: What's everyone brewing?
I didn't brew this weekend, but I made a starter to hopefully rescue a stuck fermentation on my most recent batch.
There seems to be some activity so let's hope it can bring down that FG.

Re: The go for a beer thread
Thanks for the heads-up Keith, I managed to grab one of these at that price and I plan to use it for a similar purpose. I can't tell how you've mounted your pump to it though. Can you elaborate (with or without pictures)?Keith wrote:Just got mashed in on a IPA. I'm 8 hours behind schedule. Was kid free for the first time in 3weeks... Says it all haha.
Also just finished putting this together.
Stands are on sale for $35 at Canadian Tire.

Mounted a small length of pressure treated 2x4 to the stand with some screws. Then mounted the pump and chiller to the 2x4. Glad to hear you are doing something similar. I love it and look forward to using it again.

Brewing a Grodziskie. 2.5kg of grain in 5 gallons. I have enough oak-smoked wheat malt for 9 more batches
Who knows, maybe I'll like it.

Back to back 25 gallons of the exact same recipe, one with MJ Burton Union (M79) , the other with MJ US West Coast (M44). Should be an interesting comparison.

Temperature control - they are sitting in the back of my warehouse at 18C with a fan blowing air on them. BTW, Princess Auto specials, $17.50 each for the barrel. Been using them for a while now, loss of about 1/2 gallon due to dead space at bottom. Barrel is food grade, cover is not.jtmwhyte wrote:Those fermenters look awesome. Did my first brew with EKG today. Strong bitter. 5.2kg pale ale, .2kg each special roast and victory, .5kg C30. London Ale III for the yeast. It's also going to be my first bitter without any dark grains in it.

Re: What's everyone brewing?
Brewing a Vienna SMaSH this weekend with my homegrown. Well, technically it's not a SMaSH since I don't know my hop varieties. It's a mixture of 2, possibly 3 (Galena, Mt. Hood, and Nugget.) Meh, minor details.
6.0kg vienna for 5 Gal, thinking just a single infusion at 155.
Any suggestions?

Mashed in on a pale ale at lunch. Going to hop it with Azacca and Mandarina
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I did a Vienna Smash on the weekend. Hopped with Amarillo. Something went sideways on me though and I hit ~50% efficiency. Just did a clone Russian River Pliny the Elder clone. Should have some good hops to it. Got to experience my first beersplosion through the airlock. Luckily that has died down.
Might try a good wheat next, any suggestions?
