First brew on my new Grainfather. Extra hoppy APA with falconer's flight 7c. Volumes were way off and I ended up with 28litres of 1.048 instead of 23 of 1.060.

I managed to get my brewday for Boxing Rock done today. It was a bit of a slog, but it's done.

I brewed an experimental batch last weekend and something a little safer yesterday with the leftovers just in case.

My setup works best with larger batches, so I just made one 10 gallon batch. So, I guess it had better turn out.

Mine was a slog because I decided to do an 8 gallon batch and split it (negotiating two different brewdays wasn't going to happen). It pushed the limits of my mashtun and I had to do 3 sparges in addition to my first runnings. I also had to get creative with one of the ingredients in particular which introduced some additional work that I'm not used to doing.

Also, and it appears I cannot remind myself enough about this, ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE STATE OF YOUR BALL VALVES BEFORE MOVING ANY LIQUID ANYWHERE. 8-)

In the end I came reasonably close to my numbers and since I had no idea what kind of efficiency I was going to get from the provided crush, I think overall it was a successful brewday. I'm exhausted though.

For a short update - my calc's were all wonky when my 10gal batch only yielded around 8 (don't have a way to measure in the carboy yet)

Flavour is great, but my Garrison entries will be much closer to a Experimental DIPA than an IPA. ABV's are 7.8 and 8.2% for the 2 batches...think they'll still take them?

Brewed up my black box challenge beer today
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

We just knocked out a new experimental beer at Good Robot. "The Cookie Jar" A white stout. Flavor profile I am aiming for is that of a Oatmeal Chocolate chip cookie. Lactose, Brown Sugar, coconut, coaco nibs, and vanilla beans. Brew day had a few challenges which we overcame. Definitely looking forward to trying this beer when it goes on tap. Thanks for having me in Josh. Also thanks for the company Nick!

Got an English Style IPA down today. Mostly East Kent Goldings for hops with some Northern Brewer in the bittering charge. First wort hopped as well. Mostly Maris Otter with a little Extra Light Crystal malt (15L) too.

A Kolsch. Should have no problem fermenting at 16 - 17 C during the weekend as it is going to be frigid.

I just kegged two batches - a SMaSH session lager (munich II and hallertau) and an English bitter but with Cascade hops.

Simple recipe: pils, munich, caramun 2, carafa 2, (mostly) perle , cool S-05 fermentation :cheers2:

Should have come down to sunny Baie Verte, knocked out 24 gallons of a simple Pilsner.

35# Pilsner
2 # Munich
4.5 oz Spalt @ 60
2 oz Spalt at Flameout.

497 Lager Mauribrew
1.044 O.G.
Sitting at 12C

Loves the indoor brewing, lol
Why brew beer I can buy?
