Rob, can't wait to hear how that Red X malt works for you. Sounds interesting from what you had posted about it before!

Keith...WOOHOO for your first all-grain! What are you making?

Keely, this will be the Belma almost DIPA IPA. I'm really excited for this beer.

Dexter, the tank is only a couple years old. Just took a bit of a beating last year, all surface rust.

Jimmy, Thanks. I'm planning a 10 gallon with Mike soon to put the mash tun to use. I may try to stagger a BIAB 5 gallon and 10 gallon batches to make the best use of my time.

Keely, always willing to share. I expect it to be a beautiful light tasting lager and it'll give me a good idea on how to use the malt for other styles. Maybe it'll find it's way to one of the meetings too. I'm drinking the sample now.

Keith, good luck with your brew!

HAHA thanks. I feel comfortable with it, but also a bit lost at the same time. Time will tell if I hit my numbers. I went a bit more generous with a extra liter. I'd rather have more than not enough to fill the keg. :cheers2:

Mashing in on a double batch of my cream ale recipe, going to make 5 gal of high O.G wort, split into 2 fermenters and top up with water so I get 10 gal of it.

Fermenting: Oud bruin/Vienna Pekko SMaSH
On tap: Nelson dry hopped Berliner/ Scottish Heavy 70-/ NE IPA

Keith, I didn't remember that you were doing extract brewing. If the beer you sent me is any indication, then I know you will do fantastic with AG.
Congrats on your first AG :cheers2:

So the brew is finished. Numbers were off. My own fault for over compensating the water by a few liters. Finished in at 1.064 and 24 liters. Was aiming for 21. A few pics from today.

That's how I use to roll. I'm still going to do the odd Extract brew however. I split with X on half a container so not much choice haha. Can't let it goto waste!

So I just plugged in the new numbers on my water volume. Turns out I was only a point off on my gravity. I feel much better on that now.

Original Gravity:
1.065

IBU:

I tried making my first lager and what I intended on being a DIPA but slightly messed up on my recipe conversion so it'll likely be a high ABV IPA (1.079 OG). Had a bad boilover during the lager, I may be banned from the kitchen after the mess I made :(

   The boilover was my main reason for Fermcap. Wife nearly shutdown production at my place.

However once you brew outside on a nice day. Not sure you will want to go back indoors until the weather leaves you with a back deck full of snow.

I will take the savings and efficiency of an electric brewery over a nice day any time. That being said I kinda get the best of both worlds as I brew with the windows open next to the back deck in nice days

I'm brewing an old ale, because I'm off and my wife is sleeping all day between night shifts. Also, I have a bag of Thomas Fawcett MO from the last group buy, and a new English yeast strain (Wyeast 1469, West Yorkshire), so I want to do something with that.

Amartin, you will like your 1469 yeast. It has a very unique taste. Stone fruit is what you will get. I used 8% Muntons Crystal 60 in my recipe and the stone fruit taste still came through nicely.

Brewing a West Coast IPA outside in the garage for the first time in the big pot turkey fryer I bought at home depot. Sound be an interesting sight for the neighbours behold! Might run a light beer off for house guests / non craft brew drinkers who come by this summer. Next batch after this I'm trying BIAB, which has me pretty excited. Cheers!
