Brewing up a saison. And possibly a wort kit, too. Empty kegerator is a sad kegerator. :(

Bringing water to a boil now for a lager, hoping to make a DIPA tomorrow.

Getting ready for an early morning brew. Double batch of Champagne Citra tomorrow, Pilsner, a little cara-pils, conan yeast, 1lb Citra (FWH and Late). And a little (5ml x 85%) phosphoric acid, in theory to bring down the mash PH to 5.52. No salts.

Only if it's up to snuff :) it's still in the experimental stage.

I'm mashed in on a Northern English Brown ale that will be using Denny's Favorite 50. This beer got a bronze medal in ALES 2013 and was very quaffable. It came in at about 4.5 or 4.7% abv IIRC. One of the suggestions by the judges was to have a bigger mouthfeel and a bit more caramel. I've made probably too many changes, switching the base malt to Maris Otter, upping the Carastan a bit, and changing the yeast. This one should ring in at 5% abv or so and I decided to try Denny's because of the famed mouthfeel. It's not English but we'll see how it goes. I used Nottingham last time. 10 gallons this time too.

Mashin0g (BIAB) an all grain English bitter -ESB. 94% maris otter, 6% Crystal 40L with some leftover hops - northern brewer and williamette to about 30 or so IBUs and I will use Wyeast 1968.

KLecky, I bet that's going to be pretty good.

I had a catastrophe with about 10 - 15 minutes left in my boil. Luckly I had paused my timer a bit earlier for a bit more boil off.

One of my 30A fuses blew that leads to my panel (other side of my GFCI, feeding the dryer outlet). The plug for my electric element had a lose connection, creating some heat, and I think it was arking. GFCI didn't trip because there as no curent leakage. When it went, I tossed in my 5 minute hop addition and let it steep as I dug out an extension cord to plug in the pump somewhere else. Recirculated, cooled, transfered to the fermenter.

I got my plugs on ebay (30A generator plug) but now I might find something that's locking. I was planning a double brew today though. Maybe I'll find something at Princess Auto or Kent. Either that or crimp the ends together so I can brew.

On a positive note I hit my numbers and the wort tastes great!

Mashed in on 40L of American wheat ale - to be split for apricot wheat and raspberry wheat. Burnt one of my silicon hoses while heating the sparge water while rushing to make lunch.

Mashed in for a 6 gallon batch of APA using 93% 2 row and 7% crystal 40 with a hopping schedule of Cascade/Amarillo/Citra to 57 IBU's with most of the additions at 20 minutes and less. Planning on a dry hop of Amarillo/Citra ( 1oz each )

That's major Rob. :( I just finished my brew and only had one minor cock up today. I think it went OK because I had the house to myself and could just potter. The rubber washer was missing from my cooling line and took me a couple of minutes to find it before I could cool. The faulty connection caused water to spray everywhere.

I save a third of my 5L starter each time in a mason jar, under beer, in the fridge, for the next starter. How many times can I do that do you reckon before I have to order some new conan. I've done it 5 times now. All I've seen written about that refers to collecting yeast from trub. I'm tempted to do it 10 times.

Doing a 1 Gallon batch (Gasp!) of Chinook IIPA to proof a recipe. Not a fan of 1 gallon brewing thus far since it's taken me almost as long as a full AG batch on my new system. I'm trying to get my bottle count up ahead of summer.

I am drinking ale today." ~ Poe

That's what I found for 1G brewing - almost the same time and effort for 6-8 bottles.

Rob I believe PA has those locking plugs. They were near the front of the store by the windows where they have all the extension cords last time I looked.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I didn't like what I just saw at PA, going to check out ebay. I saw these water resistant locking plugs before. I'm going to hook this up with marretts so I can get another brew in today or in the morning.

Been there, had the same thing happen. That's why I have a bunch extra of those washers now!

As for the starter thing, I think you can keep doing that (on the starter side) pretty much indefinately.

Being the nice person I am. I decided to adopt Jimmy's mash tun. Couldn't stand to see the pit missing his good friend. Needless to say everything is clean, sterile and ready to brew!

I'm back in action after experiencing another problem yesterday. When the plug melted and the fuses blew, my SSR failed in the closed state. This meant as long as my element switch was on my element was on 100% no matter what my PID was doing to (try to) turn on/off the SSR. I noticed this when I was heating the strike water for my next brew and it overshot and kept on going.

Luckily I had another SSR that was in my smoker controller that I swapped in.

I'm almost done mashing another Vienna Lager, this time a SMASH with Red X and Hallertau Tradition. It'll be 25 IBU and 1.048.
