Not an April fools joke, but I got the day off due top the weather ( go figure ) so I'll be doing an APA inside on the stove today using Cascade, Calypso and Citra. Yum. Just getting the water up to temp, grain crushed and hops weighed out. Woot.

Ha, wouldn't call it lucky. I don't work, I don't get paid, but overtime will look after my day off so no big loss. And I get to brew... win. :rockin:

Enjoy your brew day! Those Calypso hops are tasty. I think I'll be buying a pound this year at somepoint after I use up this Belma.

I bottled off the batch I did a while ago and only have 1 half doz left. Seemed to go faster than the other APA`s I have.

I'm having a hard time keeping away from my Pacific Jade IPA(APA) or whatever you want to call it. My buddy has had the tap on constantly too lol.

That Hop Profile screams great pale ale of whatever variety. I added an ounce at flameout to my Session IPA.

Today is "44 Magnum" Cream Ale day (Mangrove Jack's M44 and Magnum Hops only). Might as well use the snow days effectively :spilly:

Were you using fresh Jalapenos? If so, how many and what method? Thanks.

Fresh Japapenos, roasted in the oven to get the sugars carmelized, then simply thrown in the primary seeds and all. 3 total for a 5g batch.

Going to pick up some brewers yeast and brewing up some good ol' rootbeer this weekend. Picked up some extract a while ago and kind of forgot about it. Hoping it turns out pretty tasty haha.

I have a friend who is trying to make rootbeer ( the traditional kinda from a malt base) do you pasterize the beer after its bottled to retain some sweetness? Also, where are you getting your extract from?

Got my APA in the primary. Simcoe at 60 min and citra and amarillo at 10 and 0 mins. Smells fantastic!. Will try to dry hop with some left over amarillo. Gonna try the NASH method of prehydrating the hops before throwing them in.

Just finished chilling down an Ordinary Bitter. Nice and easy brew, and it doubles as a great yeast starter for other bigger beers.

My taps are close to empty so I will have to do a double brew over the weekend, thinking about making a simcoe/centennial ipa and a cream ale

Fermenting: Oud bruin/Vienna Pekko SMaSH
On tap: Nelson dry hopped Berliner/ Scottish Heavy 70-/ NE IPA

We picked up a bottle of rootbeer extract from our old homebrewing store before we moved. It's from a company called Royal(http://www.winemakeri.com. I guess they're bottled right here in the HRM. We don't plan on pasteurizing it, I live in a house with a few roommates so it probably won't last that long haha.

You mix sugar, the extract bottle and water in a 25L pail. Proof the yeast, and mix it to the pail. Bottle. Keep them in a warm area for a week to allow carbonation and then age for one or two weeks.

I haven't made it before, so I'm pretty excited to see how it turns out.

NG carries the Royal RB extract.

We made this stuff in a keg and force-carbed it. It's really quite good. It was a bit too sweet for my taste but, in retrospect, that may be because we force-carbed rather than allowing yeast to lower the sugar content. We're going to try sweetening it with stevia instead of sugar next time we make it.

I hope yours turns out well!

Thanks!

I think we're going to use organic cane sugar instead of table sugar to mix this stuff up. I'm hoping the same thing, that the yeast will take some of the sweetness out of it, but leave that nice cane sugar flavour behind!

Just mashed in on an American Red.

This is one of those days on which I'm happy to be an outdoor brewer. It's a gorgeous day to be out with a beer in hand and a mash on the go. :rockin:
