Everything went like clockwork yesterday for my lager. Hit my gravity spot on and was finished by noon. Wort smelled so good, especially since I used 10 ounces in it. It will also be my first time in a long while using S-23 for anything, but it is bubbling away now at 57f in my basement

Three Bells 1912 Lager ( named after a boat that used to trade between Heart's Delight, NL and Barbados in the early 1900's )

I used basic 2 row along with some Carapils for the mash at 150f and 2 oz of Spalter-Select at 60, 4 oz of Spalter-select at 20 and 4 oz of Saaz at 5 to get 38 IBU's for a 1049 OG gravity in a 23 liter brew.

Just pitched the yeast in my Pacific Jade Belgian IPA, and just mashed in on a Stone Levitation clone. Then I'm left with 3 batches to plan and brew to fill the kegs. :cheers2:

So did this go from "should I brew today?" to brewing two batches Keith?

I had 2 kits ready for today pending I could get away with kegging the beer :)

20 minutes left on the boil, and the majority of the mess is cleaned up and put away. :cheers2:

Hops add nucleation points, which can cause boilovers.

Mess was minimal, just a small boil over thankfully. I can't wait to brew outdoors haha.

@ X good to know :) :cheers2: I thought boilovers only happened during the first addition.

I'm always careful with any addition. Iirc, pellet hops were worse than leaf.

Leaf can be just as bad depending on how tightly they were packaged.

Brewing a Pale ale today.
"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

I'm making an IPA with my new Nash'd up water additions and using my PH meter for the first time. The PH meter was awesome. I calibrated it and got the mash to exactly 5.25 pH with the Acid Malt.

I'm also trying floor malted Thomas Faucet Pearl instead of MO for the first time. Anyone tried that malt before and do you prefer it to MO? or not?

Just finished skimming my FWH hops pre-boil ;) and the boil is on. Tried a teaspoon full of them and it was quite astringent, not that that means anything at this stage. Kitchen patio doors are open and the sun is streaming in.

I'm excited about this brew.

Just wrapped up a week o' brews.

Wednesday: ESB
Friday: Northern Brown
Saturday: Session IPA
Sunday: DIPA for Conan

Phew!

I think we have new neighbours who moved in on Wednesday. I wonder what they think of the two chicks next door who built a box fort (it was windy!) around a pot of boiling stuff that they tend to for hours on end...

Have a good week all!

Great looking brew week! I can imagine the neighbours. Mine don't even make eye contact when I have a brew going. It's even better when I'm out there at 6am with a head lamp on! One even asked my wife at the gym one day what I'm doing with all the steam and smoke coming from the back deck!

So far tonight I've kegged the Belgian IPA and the Stone Clone. Belgian IPA is being force carbed and the Stone Clone is being keg primed. Gelatin will be added to the Belgian tomorrow night.
Also need to keep the wife happy. I put on 2 wine kits for her (Making wine is too much work and not enough enjoyment)

After this I have a Hard Lemonade Kit I'll be putting on tap for the summer. :cheers2:

Ripping off my Conan IPA. I have a literal shit tonne of Citra, Centennial, and Pacific Jade from 10 minutes and down.

Managed to squeeze out an EdWort's Haus Pale Ale with extra hops today (finally busted into that pound of Cascade from GuingesRock). Less than ideal circumstances led to reduced efficiency (1.046 OG vs 1.051 calculated) but there were no disasters so I'm pretty sure I'll end up with beer.

Planning a Friday Night brew...1st attempt at 10gal batches since we've upgraded our keggles to 15.5gal.

Planning a Cali Steam, and a Grolsch clone (brewed both before/5gal).
