Likely a bit late in the season now, the plants likely wouldn't grow much, but may be able to establish enough of a root system to survive the winter. If you were able to track down some rhizomes, you'd likely be better off planting them in pots so you can take them inside in the fall when the temperature starts dropping.

I can probably help you out with some more fresh/fresh-dried hops if you're interested—I'm going to have more than I can use. I still have some left from last year's harvest.

I harvested my first plant today, and wet hopped an APA. I might have been just slightly premature - some of the cones weren't quite ready, but the majority were.

Thanks for the offer, Jeff, but I also have a freezer full of pellet hops... haven't brewed in over 2 months, maybe 3 now, just too busy. I see some freezer clearing DIPAs in my future.

I have a few up as well. I'm hoping to start digging up rhizomes and dig in some manure and compost this weekend.

This is going to be a good year for hops.

Cascade out front. There's a Golding shoot on the left.

Cascade on the side, there's another one to its right.

Left to right: Fuggles, Fuggles, mystery hop, Mt Hood, Halertauer, Northern Brewer, Goldings. Plus another Goldings out back to decorate the shed.

It's finally warm enough on the Island to think about gardening and the yard again. Here's my cascade I planted last year. Should I do some trimming and limit the number of shoots? Going to plant the Nugget tonight too.

I usually wait until the shoots are a couple feet high so I can cut all but the hardiest looking ones.
