Re: Random brewing pics
Chillin and fillin. Kind of a scrambling brew day for me. Was all over the place cooking, tending to one fussy kid or the other, and managed to slice my hand open real well on a sharp edge of my plate chiller too. Still ended up with beer though!

Circulating mash through herms, nothing like some Smashing Pumpkins while mashing

Re: Random brewing pics
Looking good, Araxi!
Out of curiosity, have you ever measured what your temp loss would be during the mash if you weren't using HERMS?
Do you find the HLT element on a lot during the process, or does it sit idle most of the time, and the bulk hot water does a good enough job of keeping the mash at temp?

Re: Random brewing pics
Hey Chris, yeah actually the HLT holds the heat quite well. I also heat my garage to 18C, so I'm sure if I didn't there would be a lot more heat loss.

Re: Random brewing pics
As you can see there is a 2-3 degree diff between mash temp and hlt, I think if I had thicker walled silicone hose that would be better

What did you use previously? Was it faster to get to a boil and to heat your strike water?LeafMan66_67 wrote:Blichman - really clean burn.benwedge wrote:That flame looks nice. What is it?LeafMan66_67 wrote:New burner - pretty happy with it!

"Twenty years ago — a time, by the way, that hops such as Simcoe and Citra were already being developed, but weren’t about to find immediate popularity — there wasn’t a brewer on earth who would have gone to the annual Hop Growers of American convention and said, “I’m going to have a beer that we make 4,000 barrels of, one time a year. It flies off the shelf at damn near $20 a six-pack, and you know what it smells like? It smells like your cat ate your weed and then pissed in the Christmas tree.” - Bell’s Brewery Director of Operations John Mallet on the scent of their popular Hopslam.

Re: Random brewing pics
I had a turkey frier burner from Canadian Tire. Only did the one brew with it so far and it was my first 10G batch so can't compare heating times yet.jeffsmith wrote:

^ Nah, a problem would be only having 1 lb in the freezer.
