Re: CIP Pump
From what I've read they aren't. Some people say they are using them with success, but the general consensus is that they are under-powered for the job.

All you need to do is coat the surfaces, you aren't power blasting the dirt off.

Re: CIP Pump
Mine is a 1/2 or 1/3 hp centrifugal pump, all stainless. 1 1/2" in 1" out.
I got it off ebay for $50 years ago.
A pony pump at princess auto may do the trick. They are pretty cheap, and if it doesn't cut it just take it back.
A lot of people use submersible sump pumps too. They won't likely stand up to harsh caustics, acids and heat though.

Re: CIP Pump
I have been running pretty strong acid and caustic through my submersible little giant, but I have no idea how long it is going to last...

Re: CIP Pump
1/4 hp Princess Auto submersible pump here. I got it on sale for $60-$70. It works really good for keg and carboy washing but I haven't run it through a spray ball yet. I expect it will be just fine. I don't use hot caustic btw.

Re: CIP Pump
This is the only example of a spray ball I can find that might work with the March pump (both videos are using the March pump). From the reading I've been doing it sounds like the sump pumps can actually leak oils because of their low temperature rating...not something I'm interested in..
It's a spray ball from McMaster-Carr 71445T84

That's the same ball I use. It works well, and fits in a carboy.
Another note, ball lock connectors do not last any amount of time in caustic. I ended up buying the stainless ones after I got tired of replacing them.

Yeah, they don't sell them anymore. Still comes up on google, but when you try and add to cart it says they aren't available.

Re: CIP Pump
I've got one of these comming for my keg/carboy washer.

I doubt it would work as good with a march pump tho, but I can give it a try when I have it.

Re: CIP Pump
FWIW, I have been using pretty aggressive caustic and acids with my plastic ball locks with no sign of failure. If you guys are planning an order, think about getting together for some stuff. I might want something there as well.

I use ZEP CIP Caustic cleaner, and get about three runs to a set of connectors. Maybe it's the heat?mr x wrote:FWIW, I have been using pretty aggressive caustic and acids with my plastic ball locks with no sign of failure. Re: CIP Pump
What part is failing? Are they the plastic connectors? I use tap water heat level.

Re: CIP Pump
The plastic usually fails around the barb. Now that i think a minute about metal expansion in hard plastics... it is the heat.mr x wrote:What part is failing? Are they the plastic connectors? I use tap water heat level.
I run my washer at 180++ Degrees.

Re: CIP Pump
Is that the best source for the spray ball? I'm thinking about putting together a keg/carboy washer and I think that'd be the cat's ass. I can't seem find any other place to get oneAllanMar wrote:I've got one of these comming for my keg/carboy washer.
