Hop Pickles

Post by Seanstoppable » Sun Aug 12, 2012 9:49 pm

So one of the local brineries (Brooklyn Brine Co) recently collaborated with Dogfish Head to create hop pickles. I found a jar this weekend and holy crap are they good. These are a pickley hop bomb.

You can check out Brooklyn Brine's original announcement here, but I thought the Wall Street Journal's behind the scenes was even better.

Anyone here ever thought of doing something like this?

Sounds tasty.
At Alexander Keith's we follow the recipes first developed by the great brewmaster to the absolute letter. :wtf:

India Pickle Ale, anyone?

My cucumbers aren't doing well this year.

Really? I think my dad has had a bumper crop. Did you have pests or just too dry?

The cukes are next to the pumpkins, squash, and zuchinini, all of which are doing extremely well, but the cukes not at all.

Huh go figure. Maybe they were out competed by the others?

So is anyone going to try making some hop pickles?

Definitely. I was planning on using my own hops but I'll barely have enough to brew with.

From that video it sounds like they use hop oil, not flowers. I don't know if that will cause an issue or not.

I've got 20lbs of cukes coming on Monday o.O

I'll split out 5lbs or so and give this a shot. I'll probably just use hops, not oil unless someone knows an easy way to make it.

I don't see any reason to use hop oil vs hops for home canning. Don't ask me how many to use though, I'll have to experiment.
