Re: New Kamado from Costco
I was at Costco Dartmouth tonight and they will have new stock (12 on order) around April 16 and I'd bet they're on their way to Halifax too. I picked up a couple of bags of charcoal in anticipation.

Re: New Kamado from Costco
I'm getting mine in two weeks and I want to get a head start on accessories. Heat diffuser, pizza stone, spider...
1) What does this thing come with?
2) Is there any place else to order this shit from besides http://shop.ceramicgrillstore.com/vision-classic/ which is based in the USA?
3) Are there accessories designed for something else, that will fit, available locally? I don't mind rigging something up.

I am looking to do the same thing. Would still need to order the small stone but a Spider doesn't look to hard to make. I plan on cutting the top grill legs so it is easier to take on and off. A fire brick will work for a half moon stone diffuser.

Do it. I cut about half the tip off the legs on mine and it makes a huge difference.HPhunter wrote:I plan on cutting the top grill legs so it is easier to take on and off.

Maybe we should do a group buy from ceramicgrillstore

Re: New Kamado from Costco
I don't think a group buy will help with swallowing the cost of those upgrades. My biggest complaint is not having a diffuser under the bottom grill.
Then again maybe a group buy on the small stone and I could make us all a holder for cost?

Could you use something like that for a regular diffuser down low?HPhunter wrote:A fire brick will work for a half moon stone diffuser.
As for an actual pizza stone, what about these stainless jobbies people were talking about not long ago?

Re: New Kamado from Costco
The stuff I mentioned are Primo accessories
http://primogrill.com/primo-accessories/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2-N-1 Multi Purpose Round Rack, designed to be used both as an extended cooking rack and, when inverted, as a drip pan pack for the Kamado. When inverted and combined with a 13" Primo Pizza Stone (part# 340/350, sold separately), provides true convection grilling. [Part# 330]
You'd want the rack and the 13" stone for the heat deflector setup. The stones are wicked, about 5/8" thick, I have the 16" glazed. The Primo Pizza Stone is perfect for baking great tasting pizza and other dishes on your Primo. Available glazed and unglazed and in two sizes, 16 inches and 13 inches. [16" glazed, part #338] [16" unglazed, part #348] [13" glazed, part #340] [13" unglazed, part #350]

Re: New Kamado from Costco
The Primo stuff is nice, but just to build a diffuser it's over priced.
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Brinkmann-13 ... /203017892" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
1/2" thick 13" stone for $12.97 That price seems good. It's only going to be a diffuser so it doesn't have to nice. I say we find a deal on this size stone and get cracking.
And for cooking. This appears to be King, if it fits in the Kamado.

Exactly - cracking! Had a few of the cheap fuckers before I bit the bullet for the real deal, fired and guaranteed for over 2000 F. No building required, it's already built.

Me too.. I need a diffuser! HP, you still up for making the rack/holder? Give you a chance to practice with that tig of yours!HPhunter wrote:I don't think a group buy will help with swallowing the cost of those upgrades. My biggest complaint is not having a diffuser under the bottom grill.

Shipping to AB may kill the value in this, but I'm still curious. May end up making one myself with a steel circular rack and some DIY bent up steel rod (and just welding with a MIG).

Re: New Kamado from Costco
For a hanger I took two metal coat hangers and bent them into a wide U with arms/hooks at the ends and set them in the pot perpendicular to each other. The arms rest over the lip of the fire pot and the stone sits in the U just below the lip. It's been about a year and they are still going strong.

Re: New Kamado from Costco
I did think about coat hangers.. maybe that would be a good interm solution until I can find something more 'visually appealling'. Yes call me vane when it comes to my Kamado!

Re: New Kamado from Costco
I will work on this soon. I emailed about getting a price on some 13" Primo stones.(Looking for the Best price) Still waiting to hear. As for coat hangars??? Not sure what they are made of, and being that close to the heat might give off some weird stuff.

Re: New Kamado from Costco
Costco in Dartmouth has these back in stock, 24 or so. Minus one since I'm now the proud owner of one now.
I have it half assembled since the body is too hard to lift in by myself. I'll find some help with that tomorrow and burn this sucker in. I want to do a beef brisket this weekend.

Re: New Kamado from Costco
Rob, how much was your Kamado from Costco? I'm considering replacing my 11 year old Broil King this season and am also considering making the switch to charcoal.RubberToe wrote:Costco in Dartmouth has these back in stock, 24 or so. Minus one since I'm now the proud owner of one now.

Re: New Kamado from Costco
Not bad! I'm sure that I'd spend close to that on another gas grille. I've always cooked on gas grilles, so charcoal would be all new to me. But from everything I've heard, these Kamados are the cat's ass!

I've yet to meet a person who regretted making the switch.

Re: New Kamado from Costco
Yeah, I'm sure that I wouldn't have any regrets making the switch. It could also replace my gas grille and my smoker. I think that I'll call Costco in Saint John tomorrow and see if they currently have any in stock.mr x wrote:I've yet to meet a person who regretted making the switch.
