I managed to get my vision kamado for $400 from Costco and it's been excellent. Best bang for your buck.

I couldn't find one.

If anyone can get one I'll take it.

I'm bawking on the size. I am used to a lot more grill real estate with my 22.5" one touch gold. I might wait for the costco ones to come around again. Does anyone with the bigger grill feel they could get away with a smaller grill?
The price is just so ridiculously good on these.

I definitely can for the cottage. There are times when I'd like a smaller main grill too, but it's hard to say for me whether I'd outgrow this if it was all I had.

There's one up here in New Minas, it's discontinued and on clearance 50% off, $249. I was thinking of running down and getting it for Sandy but I called just as the store was closing. They have one of the bigger ones there also, but that one is not on sale and is $800 ($799) !

Sandy, I can pick it up for you tomorrow, if it is still there ...let me know.

OK. When I get this sucker home I plan to do a 2 hour low burn and then turn it up to max for an hour.

Do I need to do anything else before I start to cook?

No! Have fun with it! And, I'd like to know what the grate size is?

I pulled the trigger on this one too. The deal was too retarded to pass up. I am planning on "burning the smell of China" out of it this evening and hopefully doing something cool this weekend. Actually just got my 1/2 lamb delivered last night, so the timing couldn't be better.

The grill is about 16" and is plenty for me and my fam of three. The total area of both grills together is actually exactly the same as my weber one touch 22". It will fit one wild goose/young turkey snugly, but things like roasts and butts will fit no problem. Probably have to coil back ribs if I wanted to do a bunch. I just need to find a 12" pizza stone. Pretty stoked to try this out, the last bunch of ribs I did on the Weber were definitely drier than they should have been.

Thanks for sniffing out this deal X!

I find that an upside down roast rack is great for doing multiple slabs of ribs on their side. I've done four racks at once with no issue.

So, what are the new kamado owners doing for charcoal this time of year?

I just ran out, I wonder if cabby still has some.

CT (at least here in Amherst) still has a few bags of Royal Oak with their summer seasonal stuff.

Not sure if you guys have tried it, but I prefer to use the maple chunk charcoal from Quebec. Home hardware and BMR carry it. It doesn't quite last as long as the oak, but I find the flavor to be less acrid.

Crap Tires here generally stock it all year, and Cabby does still have it :cheers2:

I normally use the Basques maple lump from CostCo as well, but they only carry it during the summer months. I haven't seen any lump at our HH here. Will have to ask about it.

I quite liked the stuff from Cabby, some nice large chunks and it didn't burn away on me after shutting my vents down after a cook.

HH there is in the family. They don't normally stock the Maple Leaf but the warehouse in Debert is full of it and they receive delivery every week. Call ahead to order and it'll be there within a few days :cheers2:
