very intriguing.Jayme wrote:Not sure of the range issue, but you can get a K-type thermocouple to use with the aquarium controllers that are meant for high temp applications. We use some at work for temps far exceeding a low & slow smoke.RubberToe wrote:Those aquarium controllers won't work for something like this. The temp probe would melt and I don't think the controller covers the right range.

Actually you're right. My bad! They use a 10K NTC thermistor, not a thermocouple. Just hauled out the one I bought on Ebay a while back and haven't used yet. I asked my friend at work too what he did. I knew he was using a rig on his mash with a K-type and thought it was with the aquarium temp controller, but he's just got a cheap hand held unit he uses to read the thermocouple. That being said, you could probably find another 10K NTC Thermistor with some heat shielding, or make the shielding yourself. Sounds like the rig you already have may be an easier option though.RubberToe wrote:Awesome, I was under the impression K-type didn't work with those controllers and they required something non-standard.

Thanks for the clarification and the info on the 10K NTC. The probe on that controller could probably fit into a thermowell of some kind.

Yeah I bet it would fit in a thermowell. Probably slow down the temperature coefficient some, but not enough to matter.

I had this happen today for the first time...took quite a bit of the hair off my armNASH wrote:http://primogrillforum.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Jayme wrote:Even better! Yeah great stuff over there. Did you watch the Green Egg fireball video?

I was busy brewing and the grill was up to 600*. I choked it off and it dropped down a couple hundred degrees within 5 minutes. I proceeded to open the lid and WHOOSH, bye bye arm hair!
