Have this in the slow cooker right nowRubberToe wrote:Shane, it's super easy and I don't think I've ever used a recipe. After the fact I've discovered it's already a "thing". Tostadas are often made with meat like this, and I think it's similar to braised beef barbacoa.
I take a large can of crushed tomatoes, add a couple tablespoons of crappy no name brand chili powder (it contains mild chile powder, cumin, and other spices), 1 or 2 tsp of onion powder, some more cumin, and optionally some more exotic chile powders. I'll add a small amount of cinnamon too, it does something very unique. I add the meat, coat it in sauce and let it cook in the crock pot all day, remove a chunk, shred it with a fork like pulled pork, add some sauce, and voila. Don't be shy with the spices.
You can just serve the meat on tortillas alone or add all the fixins like you would for tacos or fajitas. It's way better than your standard taco ground beef IMO. Easier too.
I'll use any lean cut of meat, beef, pork, chicken, it doesn't matter. Usually what's on sale. I got a big chunk of sirloin roast on the weekend for about $8.00 at the Superstore and now I have leftovers for a couple of days including supper for my daughter tomorrow.

Sure, I didn't really write anything down but this will put you in the ballpark...Becky wrote:Give me this recipe please!NASH wrote:That sounds delicious, Jim Beam and TubberRoe!![]()
I'm in smoked Taco Soup mode here, needed some SPICE today to help bring me out of that crazy H&T burger haze...
1 - 2 tbsp olive oil
1-1/2 lb lean ground beef, turkey, chicken or pork
1 cup chopped onion
4 cloves garlic, minced
~ 1/2 bell pepper, diced
2 cans diced/stewed tomatoes
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can corn, with juice
1 or 2 cups chicken or veg stock (to preferred consistency)
3 tbsp (or so) chili powder
1 1/2 tbsp (or so) ground cumin
cayenne pepper, crushed dried chilies or jalapenos to your heat level
Salt and pepper to taste if needed
Serve with fresh cilantro garnish. Some people also use cheese, nachos, green onions or sour cream to garnish.
Saute the meat with the OO until near done, add onions for the last few minutes then add the garlic, saute for another minute or so (don't brown the garlic). Then basically add everything else, bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for about 1/2 hr. You can add a little more or less stock (or water) for consistency as well.

It's a matter of proper meal-time etiquette; "Here's your camera, will you take photos so we can eat now?".dexter wrote:LeafMan66_67 wrote:I wasn't allowed to have my phone or camera at the table ...NASH wrote:The calzone looks wicked perfect but where's the innard shots??![]()

I smoked some ribs today as well but they're almost gone and it's too late for a photo. Here's a shot of last night's supper. Rib eye steak on the cast iron with a ceasar salad (family recipe).
